It's kind of funny, actually. I see complaint after complaint after complaint about Obama on nearly every piece on this site, yet listen to the crickets here...

"Obama needs to do more." "Obama doesn't say anything." "Obama doesn't support us." "Obama's administration does nothing."

Hillary makes a move in the State Department and people have orgasms. Funny, she couldn't make those LGBT positive changes without Obama's approval. Here again, his administration is being pretty darn clear about support.

I am tired of people putting the blame everywhere but where it belongs: Congress. Obama can't sign a thing unless Congress puts it on his desk. Executive Orders almost never last past the current President. So quit insisting he can fix it. Permanent change comes from Congress, not the office of the President.

The process of change takes time, often decades. Yet, reading comments here and other places, the spoiled brat ranting is shrill and nonstop. Frankly, I am amazed at the lack of understanding of legal process rampant here. I am constantly stunned at the venom and sheer hatred.

Sadly, the most outspoken voices only serve to re-enforce the stereotypes used against us by social and religious conservatives. A sense of entitlement will not get us our rights. Throwing literal and verbal tantrums will not do so either. Statements such a this article; that way lies the goal. We will reach it in the end. Let's try to do so with dignity, regardless of if others want us to have that dignity.

Sweetkisses: ENDA is considerably *older* than the Matthew Shepard Act. The original version of ENDA was introduced on June 23, 1994, nearly seven years before the Matthew Shepard Act was introduced for the first time.

It's not a new bill.

Actually we still have the right to be beaten and killed, but it has a better chance of being investigated now instead of ignored by the authorities.

ENDA is a great idea, but I wouldn't hold your breath on it. I don't see it being passed anytime soon. Look how long it took to pass the Matthew Shepherd Act. Awesome! We have the right not to be beat or killed!

What a remarkable statement. Props to Mr. Perez.

Again, it may be in our best interest to use things like the Matthew Shepherd/James Byrd Act and ENDA as means of obtaining full equality--including marriage equality--in the courts. As a strategy, it works very well in leaving the courts no choice other than to view us as a "suspect class." By so doing, it will become harder and harder for the courts to deny us our rights regardless of the results of electoral popularity polls.
