French gay soccer team snubbed by Muslim team

(Paris) A French gay soccer team says its members were victims of homophobia when a team of Muslim players refused to play a match against them.

The Paris Foot Gay team says Tuesday it received an e-mail from the Creteil Bebel club canceling a match scheduled for last Sunday.

“Because of the principles of our team, which is a team of devout Muslims, we can’t play against you,” the e-mail said, according to Paris Foot Gay. The e-mail received Saturday said, “Our convictions are much more important than a simple football match.”

Paris Foot Gay said in a statement that it asked the amateur league to sanction Creteil Bebel.

Zahir Belgarbi, identified as a spokesman for Creteil Bebel, told France-Info radio he apologized if “anyone felt upset or hurt.”

    • Tommy – Thank goodness you live in America, where you can make such a vile and oblivious statement without ramifications. However, the TRUE cause of the “problems in the world” are ignorant people such as yourself who use epithets to uniformly chastise a group of NON-UNIFORM individuals. Muslims are all the same in the same manner that Christians are the same – they ARE NOT. We should justly oppose those individuals who use religious language to support their terrorist mannerisms; we should NOT denigrate all members of religions without distinction.

Your perspective is indicative of the problems that we face in the world.

    • IMHO Muslims are the true bigots in our world and the cause of a lot of problems. I am sick of them and I think they should all go back to where they came from. I am sick of those silly ass women dressed in those halloween costumes 365 days a year. I am sick of hearing about that shit allah and that pissant mohamud. Why do they come to the West? And nobody in the world has the balls to tell them, “you wanted to come here, fit in or get the fuck out”. I hate them and they are the cause of the way I feel toward them.

    • Were they afraid that it would rub off. Footballs, Footballs. Are they now going to cancel all there games due to what other teams believe in and they don’t! Every day we are moving in the wrong direction, going backwards and not forwards.

    • this should be entered as an automatic loss to the game team… so they have already forfeited. And all other teams should refuse to play against them.. There is a wonderful Thai movie about this in the field of volleyball I think called in English Iron Ladies or Iron Butterflies… same situation. Hilarious and uplifting if anyone can come up with the real title, post it for me.

    • “Funny how we fear everlasting hell when it is peddled by christians. The same activity coming from Muslims is seen as intolerance.”

Some of us see it as intolerance across any/all faiths that make that claim.

    • >A team can’t pick and chose who they play.

It’s not done very often, but you can “chose,” actually. Not enough members to take the field (including no members)? Forfeit. The other team gets a win.

I’d just let the forfeit system work.

Another thing that would be entertaining would be for the other teams to inform the Muslim team about whether they had gay or bi members on their team. “A forfeit for EVERYone!” :-)

    • marcus99 has the right idea. They are just afraid to lose to a gay team. Their version of manhood would be tarnished. Not going to lie I would love to see that happen :)

    • No wonder French muslims have trouble assimilating. They allow their religion to trump just about everything. The problem with these people is that when they move to the west, they try to impose their beliefs on the rest of society. Its the same with our own christian nutjobs when it comes to equality legislation. Our problem is that the politicians on either side of the aisle don’t have any balls to give them their marching orders. Look how they’ve gotten Obama by the balls.

    • If this occurred in our country I’d be writing and calling to get the team kicked out of its league. Of course we are less likely to have a gay team than in France, so it is bittersweat.

Being France with its supposed intolerance of religious intolerance (with the head scarf ban etc.) I hope the government steps in to help the league see the only correct course of action: kick this team out.

When a group publicly proclaims that their religious based bigotry trumps the obligations they have made it is imperative that they be exposed to the public as what they are.

But of course if that was true here, we’d have people laughing at the RCC’s legitimacy and the IRS revoking their tax exempt status.

Funny how we fear everlasting hell when it is peddled by christians. The same activity coming from Muslims is seen as intolerance.

    • oh please this is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read. A team can’t pick and chose who they play. They should be dismissed and understand the real meaning of “conviction.”

  • marcus99 Said: October 7th, 2009 at 7:57 am
    • I dunno, maybe we’re reading to much into this? Perhaps it has nothing to do with convictions. They just didn’t want to LOSE against a gay team. If they thought they could beat (and humiliate)the gay team, they would have played. Good chance for their closet cases to cop a feel after all.

Convictions indeed. Just a bunch of scaredy cats!

    • 1. The Muslim team should be thrown out of the league f they refuse to play any other team. Their reasons are irrelevant.

      2. the French team should issue a press release along the lines of, “As the Muslim team apparently feels that they cannot compete on the field with a team of gay men, perhaps they should look into an intramural league with teams composed of high school boys and girls to complete against. perhaps they might feel more comfortable – and have a better chance of winning a game.”

  • Terryinindy Said: October 7th, 2009 at 7:23 am
    • Sounds like the gay Football team should get others to boycott playing the Muslim team, “Because we believe in ethical actions and homophobia isn’t ethical, we will not be playing against bigots, our ethics are far more important than football…)
