Fort Worth rally protests police raid on gay bar

(Fort Worth) Protesters upset with the way police conducted a raid on a gay nightclub rallied in downtown Fort Worth.

Seven people were arrested for public intoxication during the raid on the Rainbow Lounge early Sunday. Protesters said one person was seriously injured and excessive force was used.

Police disputed the accusation of excessive force and said the department would thoroughly investigate any allegations. The raid was one of three bar checks conducted by police and agents from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

Police said two intoxicated individuals made sexually explicit moves toward officers and a third grabbed a TABC agent’s groin. Several patrons told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the officers weren’t assaulted.

About 100 protesters gathered Sunday night.

    • On the anniversary of Stonewall we are quickly reminded that we cannot be comfortable; as we celebrate our progress, we must understand the long road ahead, for ourselves, and our sisters and brothers. My comments to the Fort Worth newspapers have yet not been published and i am waiting for a response from those papers as to why, though the papers reporting so far seems evenhanded and fair.

    • Cops lie? No, I DON’T BELIEVE IT!!! (Oy!)

    • This most certainly would not be the first time that Fort Worth Police officers have LIED when relating incidents with gay citizens. They are not above committing perjury in open court when it involves gay citizens. Any thing the Fort Worth police say should be taken with a large grain of salt and should be thoroughly investigated by an independent agency to prevent their lies from being registered as the “truth”.

    • Gotta say it…this is one reason why I did not like living in Texas.

They are right wing nut vigilante’s that think they are entitled to be abusive. TX if ripe for a revolt.

    • Don’t come to NYC. It’s not much better here with the police, entrapment and false arrests.

    • The eye witness accounts of the raid are completely different from what the police claim. The eye witness report that the one of the men arrested for being intoxicated was not drinking alcohol at all, but water. Also disputed is that anyone made any sexual gestures toward the cops at all. It sound like they are just using that as a justification. You know, like the police do when they murder an innocent person…. ” I thought they had a gun”

    • Latest news is that the condition of the man who was thrown to the ground has worsened and he is suffering intercerebral hemorraghing. The entire GLBT communities if Fort Worth and Dallas should be rallying!

    • The Fort Worth police should be ashamed of themselves and I hope every GLBT person in Fort Worth pursues all legal remedies to this incident. If they don’t, this will only encourage things to continue.

    • As a citizen of Fort Worth, I am horrified by what happened. The man with the head injury is probably going to need brain surgery. The Fort Worth Police officer who caused the injury should be held liable for all of the medical costs this man is going to incur. It is despicable that they did this and it makes me feel unsafe. I will probably move somewhere more accepting because of this.

    • We should have let these freaks secede in the 1860s. Biggest mistake this country ever made.

    • Seriously everyone..I live in Houston…the raids do go like this. I have been at one bar and had SWAT teams come in and push everyone down or against walls like we were convicts or something. It could be time that something like this provokes a riot.

    • well then if they forgot Stonewall I think its high time to have a new one. We are way over due for a riot. After today we will know how justified those riots will be. If Obasshole upholds DOMA then its time we show a little anger.

    • Their cave women are chased by dinosaurs too.
Texas: the land that Stonewall forgot.
