Thanks for the comments, and I totally agree with most. Perhaps it is semantics, but I just had trouble with the word “legitimate” as it relates to her opinion.

On the basis that it is perfectly legitimate for a person to buy into the commonly espoused Christian fallacy that marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman. For Christians and some others, this is a belief they honestly hold and as much as you and I may disagree with it we cannot deny them the right to that belief.

Further, provided your beliefs do not involve advocating or inciting physically harming others, every person should have the right to profess their beliefs. I should have the right to stand on a street corner and shout to all who will listen about the merits of legalising gay marriage, but if I have this right then equally it should also be available to someone who believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

I will always argue with people who believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman only, but I will never deny them the right to that belief. That said, when people abuse their positions in order to broadcast their personal opinions in an attempt to suppress the civil rights of others, I will always condemn that.

This vile specimen is entitled to believe that gay marriage is wrong. What she is not entitled to do is abuse her position in order to promote those views. Like every US citizen, she is entitled to get on her soapbox – but because of her position she not only had a soapbox, but a bullhorn and a captive audience too. For that she should not only be sacked, but sued for breach of contract.

While she has a right to the opinion, as does anyone (no matter how baseless their opinion might be) the foundation of her opinion is pure religious interpretation.

As such, it may be legitimate to her, but it is not objectively applicatory to civil rights. Otherwise, slavery would be “legitimized”, as would numerous other questionable and reprehensible practices; practices we accept have no place in modern society.

Poor poor miss little christian. Don’t we all just feel so sorry for her. She feels persecuted and ridiculed and has lost her job because she “came out” as a bigot. How does it feel, Miss Thang? How does it feel to walk in our heels . . . even just for a moment. not so much fun to get fired for being who you are, is it? Oh . . . I forget . . . you CHOOSE to be a bigot. I did not choose to be gay.

Not to worry though. I’m sure there are plenty of your self-righteous crowd who will gladly pay you the big bucks to spew your hateful garbage in their churches. You can dawn their plastic crown and play queen for a day, there.
