(Boynton Beach, Florida) A Florida woman stabbed her ex-wife more than 200 times and then killed herself police in Boynton Beach said.

The bloodied body of Jessica Kalish, 56, was found in her car in the parking lot of a medical center hours after her estranged spouse had reported her missing.  When officers went to the home to tell Carol Burger, 57, that Kalish was dead, they discovered Burger’s body. She died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

An autopsy on Kalish found more than 200 stab wounds, likely caused by a Philips head screwdriver.

Police believe Kalish was killed in the garage of the home and that Burger then placed the body back seat of Kalish’s BMW and drove it to the parking lot.

Burger then walked home and called police saying that Kalish did not show up to work and had missed a doctor’s appointment. 

A police spokesperson said investigators still do not know what drove Burger to killer her former wife.

Officers initially believed they were dealing with a double homicide until crime scene investigators using Luminol discovered Kalish’s blood in the garage.

“The test indicated a tremendous amount of blood had been cleaned up from the garage, washing machine, a shower, a bathroom floor and a bathroom sink,” police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Slater said that the test also revealed Burger’s sneaker prints in the garage, proving she had walked through the blood.

Kalish was a software executive. Burger was a journalist who regularly contributed to the Huffington Post.  They had married in Massachusetts after same-sex marriage became legal there, but later broke up.

The women continued to share the same house, but according to friends lived separate lives and Kalish had become recently involved with a woman from Massachusetts.
