>I did not see that film “Outrage”. But unless Governor Crist was actually portrayed in that film by name as governor of Florida in a role that truthfully suggests an actual gay past, then what relevance does any film have to such a conclusion about him?

Puh-LEASE! When a closeted gay politician crosses the line to attack us, then we have the right to defend ourselves by outing him. (Interesting how it's almost *never* a woman.)

I can't imagine what it must have been like to have lost a friend who committed suicide because s/he lost a job due to being outed during the McCarthy hearings in the 50s. Then, you go to ptown to try to relax and decompress, and there's Roy Cohn dancing next to you, the closeted gay architect of the McCarthy hearings.

I'd love it if we could create a Roy Cohn exception to the general rule that we do not out each other. In rare cases where damage is being done and it matters, yes, we do out this villains.

I think this should encourage all of us to write to Charlie Crist and any other law makers on this subject. Talk about an outdated law and a crime that the children are the ones who really lose out in the long run!

I view Florida as a severe sunburn and skin cancer state. I can get enough heat stroke and sunburn right here near DC on certain excessively hot and humid near 100 degree days and plus our winters are short at about a month and half long and the rest of the time at the end of the year fairly mild and snow free. And given the hyper conservative nature of Florida and its almost yearly hurricane distasters and its reputation as a place where older folks go to live out the remainder of their lives and then pass away makes Florida even less attractive.

That hot, blinding Florida sun just beats the hell out of one's skin and unless you stay slathered in sunscreen in just a couple hours around FT Lauderdale in even late October, your skin is in for a world of misery as I found out one year.

Another year I came down to Florida as a teenager, I was happy TO WEAR A SWEATER TO PROTECT MY SKIN and of course sun glasses the whole time.

I am sorry, Florida isn't what its cracked up to be and I don't care if I get near it again.

And gayactivist 101 that antifemale sexist language is highly unnecessary. That is what Menstruator has been referring to for so long. That antifemale sexism is alive and well amongst some of the men here on 365gay.com and the more I see it, the more I believe her.

Charley,
I did not see that film "Outrage". But unless Governor Crist was actually portrayed in that film by name as governor of Florida in a role that truthfully suggests an actual gay past, then what relevance does any film have to such a conclusion about him? And Crist is more qualified to know about himself than anyone else as he is the only one who can live in his own skin 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Does anyone else find it odd that Christs has been governor for years and this issue has been an issue in FL for years and he gives the reporter an answer like "I'll have to think about that..."?

WTF? He's never given thought to this, as governor?

Why won't someone with the gay goods on Christs finally just black mail this closet case mother fucker and put his ass in line on gay issues once and for all?

Wait!

So...straight singles can adopt too? That's not a "traditional family" either. How can the courts uphold this law? If FL has long and still continues to allow gays to be foster parents, and has had no problems with that, this law seems to have no "rational basis". In other words, it's there ONLY to stigmatize and punish an unliked minority.

I thought states had to show a "rational basis" for discriminatory statutes?

FL is such a freaky state. It gets all of this coverage and fame for being this awesome, cool, cosmopolitan place with great diversity, and then...it often behaves like anywhere else in the deep south, but crazier.

There was a recent case where some famous ball player, driving drunk in his luxury car KILLED somebody in a wreck. The guy got like 30 days in jail or 30 days probation? It was something ridiculous, a total slap on the wrist for what he did.

Yet...FL judges have continued to HOLD UP this law as reasonable. What a very odd state. Are the judges in FL mentally deficient, or is it something with the heat?

I loved that pie-in-the-face take on that racist redneck homophobic bitch Anita Byant back in the 1970s!!!!!

I can not belive that in yes 2009, there is actually a law that says "no individual person may adopt if that person is a homosexual" in Florida Statutes - only in Florida!!!!!

There must only be one criterion to determine if people may adopt: WILL THEY BE LOVING AND CARING PARENTS. If this criterion is used, then it must be conceded that adoptive parents may be of any sexual orientation and gender identity. Having said this, I agree there are LGBT persons who are not suitable as parents. They must be told so and not be permitted to adopt children. But guess what! There are a corresponding number of heterosexuals who are not suitable as parents-- and that includes many in "traditional" marriages and attending church every week. They too must not be permitted to adopt children.
