Fla. gays to demonstrate at governor’s wedding

(Tallahassee, Florida) A gay rights group says it will state a protest at Florida Gov. Charlie Crist’s wedding on Dec. 12.

Impact-Florida wants is members and other supporters to wear pink T-shirts outside St. Petersburg’s First United Methodist Church where Crist will marry Carole Rome.

Following the wedding the group says it will follow the couple to the reception at a local resort.

“The demonstration will be peaceful and respectful,” Impact-Florida’s Lorna Bracewell told GaySoFla.com.

Bracewell told the online publication that the wedding provides a unique opportunity to shine a light on the injustice and unfairness of Amendment 2, the constitutional amendment that limits marriage to opposite-sex couples that was passed by voters last month.

Crist was an ardent supporter of the measure.

“He is exercising the same fundamental right millions of Floridians are now denied because of the passage of Amendment 2,” Bracewell said.

Crist’s wedding announcement surprised many in Florida’s gay community. There had been longtime rumors and speculation that Crist, a former state attorney general prior to becoming governor was a closeted gay.

During the 2006 gubernatorial campaign, independent candidate Max Linn, during an appearance on a radio talk show, said it is common knowledge in Tallahassee that Crist is gay.

“Charlie come out, come out from wherever you are,” Linn said during an interview on WFTL.

Crist has disputed constant rumors over his sexuality.

After speculation began over his possible naming as Sen. John McCain’s running mate, Crist announced his engagement to Carole Rome.

    • Interesting story, so what’s his next move now that he is digging his hole a little bit deeper? If he is gay, as the general consensus seems to be, then he owes it to not only himself, but his future wife, his family, friends and the State of Florida to come clean now. Taking a lesson from the Jim McGreevey files might be just worth his while.

This is the most obnoxious idea I’ve seen in a long time. Let them have their wedding in peace and let come what may. We are not going to make allies and friends in our struggle by behaving like a bunch of a–es.

      LMFAO shut up

    • If I lived in Florida (or if my schedule/ budget would let me hop on a plane) I would be there. A public offical that does bigoted things deserves this. Why should we pass this up ? This is a perfect way to make our point.

    • Okay Andre, let’s just sit on our fat a=ses, and shove our mouths full of cake”, and everyone will be happy. How long have we “Americans” gotten anything for just sitting on our butts. 0 (ZERO)!!

So stay happy in whatever state you live in, but whether our governor is gay or straight, he still supported inequaltiy amongst his own people whether we be gay or straight.

    • Wouldn’t it be fun to have a big car caravan from Jacksonville to Tallahassee.
Please let me know if one is being organized. I would love to be a part of it. John jas7203@yahoo.com

    • You’ve got two former GOP flunkies of Katherine “Tammy Faye” Harris who claim to have been amour du jour. You’ve got max Linn who says that Crist confided in him at leadership school. And you’ve got your gaydar. What more do you want, video?
