I e-mailed Center for Military Readiness and challenged Elaine Donnelly on her contention that Polis' appointment was advocacy since he wanted more tolerance but said he wasn't pushing as board member pushing for an end to the ban on openly gay military members.

We currently have 3 openly gay members of Congress. Barney Frank, Tammy Baldwin and more recently Jared Polis. Better than only 2. However, we could use some more.

Bringing an openly LGBT person onto the Air Force Academy Board is a good first step to ending "Don't ask; don't tell (just lie)" Congratulations to Rep. Jared Polis, but now he must follow through press the point of ending DADT in spite of any pressures from homophobes who want to prevent LGBT people from carrying out the duties and responsibilities of citizenship.
As for Republican Representative Robin Hayes, he needs to quit twisting the truth on ending discrimination against LGBT people entering the military and military academies. Our community has never asked for special treatment or that sexual orientation be made a criterion for diversity. We have simply asked that the ban on LGBT people entering the military be ended. Surely, if he does his homework, that politician must realize that all arguments against LGBT people in the military have been proven as false worries.

Please get your facts straight. Tammy Baldwin(Democrat from Madison, WI) was the first non-incumbent openly gay person elected to Congress.

I hope this is a signal for the change to come. Even if it is not though, it has at least brought the debate "front and center" again ... including comments from those who wish to keep the ban in place. They, of course, will be proven wrong when DADT is repealed, Gays and Lesbians can serve openly, and civilization - and our military - do not come crashing down.
