FBI: Hate crimes against gays rise while other crimes fall
10.27.2008 1:45pm EDT
(Washington) Law enforcement agencies reported a slight decrease in hate crimes last year, despite an increase against gays and lesbians.
The FBI reported more than 7,600 hate crime incidents in 2007, down about 1 percent from last year.Racially motivated hate crimes accounted for more than half of that total. Religious bias was the second-leading motive for hate crimes, followed by prejudice against sexual orientation.
Within those categories, the FBI report found most hate crimes tended to be anti-black, anti-Jewish and anti-gay.
The FBI report is purely statistical and does not assign a cause for the slight overall decrease or the 6 percent increase in anti-gay hate crimes.

It’s disgusting how the so-called “liberal” media on TV (such as CNN) just reports the drop in hate crimes against racial and religious minorities, but mentions nothing about the significant increase in hate crimes against our community.
All of this begs the question: Does reporting anything sympathetic to the GLBT community make the purported “liberal” media so paranoid in thinking that they might be accused of being pro-gay? Perhaps, if they report the true statistics, then they may feel obligated (for so-called equal balance) to give gay-bashers equal time to defend their “right” to gay bash us. Sort of like the air time they inevitably give to Bible-bigots whenever our civil rights are discussed. Oddly, I don’t see the KKK called in to give “balanced commentary” whenever Black civil rights are discussed or neo-Nazis given “equal time” when the Jewish community is the topic.
Hypocritically, to subject us and the viewing public to the invective of homophobes is now called being “balanced”; whereas, the same treatment for any other minority would be considered abusive and inappropriate. Funny how that works out. But what do you expect when our own political leaders in the Democratic party don’t even consider us their equals. So why should the “liberal” media on TV be any different. Although, unfortunately, by doing so, they just give more justification to persistent bigotry.
As far as the corporate media goes, I guess we’re a special case. Otherwise, why else would CNN just report a half truth (which is also a half lie) about hate crimes? Perhaps, it might be that hate crimes against “other” minorities are less justifiable. I hope that isn’t the underlying reason, but I fear that it may be so.
Sooooo….Anderson Cooper could you just, for once, please speak the f**k up!!! Aren’t you tired of acting all cutsey poo and playing the fool by asking viewers of your AC360 TV program to add captions to your silly photos of water-skiing squirrels and silly crap like that? Why aren’t you examining the struggles of OUR community? Why is it too far for you to travel to find the injustices heaped upon our community in America and why is that less important than your travels abroad to find injustice? Why is Man’s inhumanity to man in other countries more important than the indignities and inequities we in the GLBT community have daily thrust upon us?
Sadly, it seems that Ol’ Andy has become nothing but a modern day “Steppin’ Fetch-it” for fascist hetero-centric journalism. What a shame! And he doesn’t even need the money.

Speaking of hate crime(s):
George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).
George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.
And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.
The FBI knows what Bush did.
Bush was absolute evil.
Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.
Bush is a psychological prisoner.
Bush has a lot to worry about.
Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.
In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

(Something considerable: I don’t quite remember where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent phrase, and please let me share it—it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memory so it never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—actually—off of the top of my head, I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.)
