‘Ex-gays’ sue DC human rights office

(Washington) A national organization that claims homosexuality is a matter of choice and that gays can be “cured” has filed a lawsuit against the Washington DC Office of Human Rights, accusing it of failing to protect “ex-gays.”
The DC Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays, or PFOX, says in its suit that the Office of Human Rights does not recognize “ex-gays.”
The suit asks the DC Superior Court to direct the Office to include former homosexuals under the sexual orientation law.
“The ex-gay community is the most bullied and maligned group in America, yet they are not protected by sexual orientation non-discrimination laws,” said Regina Griggs, PFOX executive director, in a statement.
“Shouldn’t ex-gays enjoy the same legal protections that gays enjoy?” asked Griggs in the statement.
“Former homosexuals and their friends have been fired from their jobs, repeatedly ridiculed, assaulted, and intimidated. This harassment is most often perpetrated by the same groups who demand protection under sexual orientation laws but work to deny ex-gays the same respect.”
Griggs also said that the group wants protections for “ex-gays” in federal legislation - specifically the Employment Non-Discrimination Act known as ENDA.
“PFOX is especially concerned because Presidential candidate Barack Obama has failed to answer PFOX’s Aug. 25th letter asking if ex-gays will be included in sexual orientation legislation which Obama says he will sign into law as President,” said Griggs.
ENDA has passed the House but has yet to be taken up by the Senate. It would outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment, credit and housing.
“Former homosexuals should have the right to be out, open and safe in society,” said Griggs. “On his website, Senator Obama says he supports gay and transgender rights because he supports civil rights for all persons, but does that include ex-gays? Americans need to know where Obama stands on the issue of ex-gay inclusion because his pledge to pass homosexual and transgender legislation as President will affect all of us. We urge Senator Obama to end his silence.”

So by ‘Ex-Gays’ you mean straight right? If so, then they’re the most privileged group in the United States.
If not, then where does ‘Ex-Gay’ fall into? They’re not gay or straight, so asexual?
Excuse my ignorance but isn’t “ex-gay” now considered “straight”? They are more protected than the gay and transgendered members of our society. How can they be bullied and harassed about it unless they go around telling people about it? They bring their opposite sex mate to all events and they legally marry them so I really am confused about what it is that they want. If they wanted so badly to not be gay and went through the “ex-gay” programs then they have decided to put all gay issues behind them. What do they want the gay groups to do? What do straight couples get? Shouldn’t all people expect to be treated the same under all of the laws???
Poor babies! Those “ex-gays” can get married and adopt children and now they are complaining?
Look idiots, you are either straight or you are gay. If you are straight, realize all the protections you have and stop whining.
If you are gay, then come on back to the “dark side.” You never really left in the first place, Dorothy
………………..there are no words for this level of stupid.
This is ridiculous, if you are “ex-gay” you are now heterosexual. I didn’t realize that being straight meant you needed more protection from other straight people?
This is got to be one of the dumbest lawsuits in history. If a judge listens to this bullshit meandering then he/she should be taken off the bench!!!
Ex-gay movement tradtionally wanted to end rights and protections for gays.
I view the ex-gay movement with suspicion as one of the fronts that can advance the antigay agenda.
I have nothing against gays that try to be not gay, I do have something against their trying to stop the social, legal, and etc. progress of those who very gladly and very definitely identify as being gay.
Is this real? I agree with the other posts. Exactly how would legislation for “ex-gays” be worded, if not to say “heterosexual” or “straight”? This is ridiculous and bordering on silly. I’ve never heard of a person losing their job because they’re “ex-gay”, unless it is the role of a gay prostitute. I guess since these people already hate themselves for once being gay and learned that no one cares about them because they are “ex-gay” then they are trying to get attention/sympathy from someone. It’s pathetic.
The DC Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
Sexual Orientation means present and past orientation. These people are protected as both gay and straight. This suits is a vailed attack on LGBT rights… implying that gays have special rights instead of the same rights as straight people.
These people have the same rights to sue if the were fired for being straight as gay do for being fired for not being straight…
I don’t get it… “discrimination based on sexual orientation” covers everything, straight, bi, gay, ex-gay, ex-ex-gay, ex-bi-gay-ex-straight. It simply means that whatever-sexual-orientation can’t be used to discriminate. So where is the legal standing for this?
“Shouldn’t ex-gays enjoy the same legal protections that gays enjoy?”
You mean nothing? As in most states, we have no legal protections; my home state being one of them. (KY)
A “former” homosexual is a heterosexual (or bisexual), which is a sexual orientation.
So I don’t see the validity if this argument.
This would be laughable if not for being so pathetic.
These in-denial returned-to-the-closet homosexuals are trying to promote their agenda when there is no agenda to promote. Everyone knows they are still gay, and no telling how they satisfy themselves, but put out a snow job to the public who are willing to blind side themselve to the real truth.
These people need to look in the mirror and ask themselves what is deep in their closeted souls, and see if they can stand looking at it.
Ex-Gays = Straight Pretenders
Psly-like-a-FOX “says in its suit that the Office of Human Rights does not recognize “ex-gays.””
Of course it does - they’re called heterosexuals, aka the people who are already privileged before the law.
There are still some 37 States in which you can be fired - or not hired at all - for being gay. I don’t know of a single State where one can be fired merely for being heterosexual.
“The ex-gay community is the most bullied and maligned group in America”… Wrong. They’re the most non-believed.
Such nonsense those religious crazies spout.
