Equality March staffers resign

The co-directors of the National Equality March have resigned, citing differences about the organizations’s direction.
Kip Williams and Robin McGehee resigned for a mix of reasons, they said in letters to Equality Across America, Bill Browning reports.“I’m moving on from EAA for personal and professional reasons. First, I need more security in my life, because I worked on the march for less than minimum wage and without health insurance,” Williams said in a statement to the Bilerico Project. “Second, I share with EAA the goal of full federal equality, but I have different ideas about the road to get there.”
Williams says he was paid $9,000 for his work on the march from July 1 until Nov. 1.
Tanner Efinger, Cleve Jones’ personal assistant, was elected by executive committee members (including Browning) to serve as a volunteer interim Project Director.
Jones said that he wasn’t sure that Equality Across America is a viable organization, as it still doesn’t have a mission statement, bylaws or a budget.

I wonder what the pay was. I thought it was illegal to be paid less than minimum wage plus $9000 for four months is significantly more than I make and I make a bit above minimum wage.
Thats too bad we lost them from this organization. They did a stand-up job with the little they had and it is very unfortunate they will no longer be working it here…although as Cleve said…they’re working without budgets or even freakin bylaws..which usually accompany membered organizations.
It’s too bad because they ALL did an outstanding job with the march even if it was all within a 3 month time period.
Truely too bad because it’s not like HRC is ever going to pick up the pace like EAA did…they’re too busy at Tea & Scones with the Chief. EAA mobilized so many more people both gay and straight in that little time table then did HRC in….ever? Too bad.
It’s a shame. They were the only national organization independent from the democratic party and the Federal government.
