Ed Koch: Palin scares me

(New York City) Saying that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin “scares the hell out of me,” former New York Mayor Ed Koch endorsed fellow Democrat Barack Obama on Tuesday.
In 2004, Koch backed President Bush for re-election, saying the Republican incumbent was better equipped to combat “Islamic terrorists” than Democratic candidate John Kerry.Koch, who was mayor of New York from 1977 to 1989, said he has concluded that the country would be safer in the hands of Obama and running mate Joe Biden than presidential candidate John McCain and Palin.
“Protecting and defending the U.S. means more than defending us from foreign attacks,” Koch said, citing such concerns as civil liberties, abortion rights, gay rights and access to health insurance.
Koch said he is particularly troubled by Palin’s record in those areas.
“It’s Palin primarily,” he said. “She scares the hell out of me.”
Koch called Palin a “plucky, exciting candidate” but also said: “If the vice president were ever called on to lead the country, there is no question in my mind that the experience and demonstrated judgment of Joe Biden is superior to that of Sarah Palin.”

You go Ed! Glad to see I am not the only one who lays awake at night scared to death that this bible carrying, gun slinging, ex-beauty queen, could be just a heart beat away from the oval office.
Kevin, I can assure you that you are NOT the only one which has the fear that Palin would be a “heart beat away” from being in charge of the “nuclear football” and the “red phone”. My other concern, which plays into that fear is that the person in the Number 1 position is of such an advanced age and has had health problems of a serious nature in the past. It also bothers me that the candidate for Vice_President has stood before the American People and told untruths and her running mate has reiterated those untruths and when caught it was decided that they had simply “misspoke”. I, for one citizen, have had enough of “Republican misspeak” over the last 8 years. I am still waiting for someone to explain how, without drastic changes in the Congress, McCain/Palin are going to do anything other than either continue the failed policies of the present administration or create deadlock in Washington.
Right on,Kevin and Vanndean! While my vote is solidly Democratic, if it weren’t I’d look at both VP candidates closely and still vote Democratic.
My fear is that with blatant sexism that permeates much of the world, that the world would not take a “President Palin” seriously. Heck, even I don’t. I find her too risky to present to the world. President Obama and Vice-President Biden would be my choice any day over the offerings of the other ticket.
