Dems too gay for Liberty U

(Richmond, Virginia) Liberty University – the Virginia college founded by the late televangelist Jerry Falwell – has stripped its fledgling College Democrats club of official recognition, saying the party stands against the conservative Christian school’s moral principles.
Vice president of student affairs Mark Hine said in an e-mail to club President Brian Diaz that the national Democratic party violates the school’s principles by supporting LGBT rights and abortion and is pro socialist.Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. told the Associated Press that the club’s recognition by the school was “an oversight by an administrator” who didn’t thoroughly consult school policy.
Liberty University has a longstanding anti-gay policy. Openly gay students are denied admission, and students who are found to be gay are expelled.
In 2006, 20 members of the Soulforce Equality Ride were arrested when they entered the campus to discuss LGBT civil rights with students.
Following the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington in 2001, Falwell declared that gays and pro-choice advocates were to blame.
Speaking on the 700 Club religious program, Falwell said, “The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say ‘you helped this happen.’”
He later apologized.
In 2003, Falwell announced that he was putting aside everything to devote his time to passage of a federal constitutional ban on gay marriage.
“I am dedicating my talents, time and energies over the next few years to the passage of an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which will protect the traditional family from its enemies who wish to legalize same-sex marriage and other diverse “family” forms,” Falwell said.
In the 2004 election campaign, he worked with Republicans to use same-sex marriage as a wedge issue. A week after the election he announced he was organizing battle plans for what he called an “evangelical revolution.” Falwell said that the election showed that Americans want to return to “traditional values.”
He promised to roll back gay rights laws in communities across the country.
The university is associated with the conservative Liberty Counsel founded by Mathew D. Staver, Dean of Liberty University School of Law.
Liberty Counsel fights LGBT initiates in courts across the country.

Hey guys – the best thing we can do is respond to all this hatred with love. I hear a lot of bashing of Christians. Please remember that not all Christians believe like Falwell or folks at Liberty U believe. There are some Christians out there – like me – who believe that God accepts and loves all people and our only point in life is to show love to others and treat them like we would want to be treated.
I really feel sorry for those kids at Liberty.
Have you noticed how the religious right always talks about free speech right when it is homophobic hate speech, but this act shows what will happen with free speech if the religious right takes power. And you can bet that one of the groups to be silenced will be LGBT folk.
My question is very simple: is this the only university in this country? Why would gay people be interested in a place that clearly reprove gay rights? This is a fight not worthy at all.
Looks like GOD took care of Falwell…it was a message, just like he used to say…..hope they have A/C down there!
I find it humorous they condisider democrats immoral. Republicans are the ones who say don’t help the poor, screw you if you don’t have health insurance, let’s go bomb the world into democracy, and let the corporations pollute and screw people as much as they want. I used to be religous and republican, and the inconsistancy above is one of the reasons I am proud to say I left.
As for the name ‘Liberty”, that’s something straight out of a George Orwell story. It should be called “Fascist Opression University”.
It’s obscene for such an anti-American establishment to be named “Liberty”.
This campus should be considered a domestic terrorist training ground and be carpet bombed.
Another bunch of christian facist pigs. May they choke on their bile.
Maybe “Liberty U” should change its name to “Christian Extremist Totalitarian U”.
Liberty U is nothing short of a hate institution, and I have no idea why any LGBT person in their right mind would want to apply to that school, unless they were doing undercover business, like Kevin Roos (google him if you don’t know him). Besides that, they can’t just tell their students that they’re not allowed to affiliate themselves with a particular political party, a freedom guaranteed us in the Bill of Rights.
Since when does political affiliation affect morality?
Also, (as a former Catholic now atheist) aren’t there numerous times in the Bible that Jesus (you know, the big cheese of the Bible) went to those outcast by society and the religious authorities instead of just judging and shunning them? And they won’t even let a gay person attend, much less, openly step foot on their grounds. Liberty University’s sense of religion is really quite twisted. I can’t wait for them to lose government funding for this.
And as a native Virginian, I can say the following: Great! One less waste of my taxpayer money!
If Falwell promised to devote all of his time. talent and energy to fighting gay marriage, and then promptly died, then I guess that was his Gods’ verdict on his waste of time, “talent” and energy.
Burn in hell, you prick.
You can have your traditional family; we’ll leave you alone with that. We’re gonna exist no matter what you do.
Isn’t there are part in the Bible where it says to explore the world and find things out for yourself, or is that part ignored now?
Pell grants, student loans, federal research grants. Liberty will lose all three. Why does Liberty want to punish its students in such a Fascist manner?
Falwell and all his kindred spirits can burn in hell.
I’m sick of being nice about this bullcrap. They can burn in that hell they keep preaching about. He is going to devot all his time to repeal glbt laws in communities across the country? Someone stick him on a spit because that sick crazy SOB is done.
I thought this phantom had finally rotted, but I guess the apple didn’t fall far from the tree…maybe Liberty U should move to California.
