Church sign attacks gays

(Blacklick, Ohio) A church in Blacklick, Ohio, is making a statement using Katy Perry’s song “I Kissed a Girl.”
Havens Corners Church put up a sign with the lyrics “I kissed a girl and I liked it” and an additional line that reads “Then I went to hell.”The pastor says the sign is a warning to teens about homosexuality.
He admits the sign has confused some people who either don’t know the song or don’t understand the message.
The director of a gay rights group says she understands the message just fine: that the church isn’t very accepting.

“They” can even convey a clear message. Now wonder there was confusion. The message could have been interpreted about a boy kissing a girl. Pathetic. The sad thing about this is that Blacklick is a suburd of Columbus, OH which is a very gay friendly town. I used to live there and loved it.
And main stream fundamental Christians, and other like-minded religions, wonder why they are not witnessing to “the lost?” First off let me say that I was more lost when I was living the “lie” of fundamental Christianity as a minister than I have ever lived as an out and proud gay man. Once I decided to stop the lying of fundamental Christianity values and begin accepting myself as I was born, I found incredible freedom from the sin of lying. My life is much more fulfilling as an honest out gay man in America than it ever was as a closeted gay man living in a fundamental Christian society full of hipocrisy and deceit. We can ALL find FREEDOM in TRUTH, once we let the truth set us FREE.
That so dumb i think I might barf. Christians, especially baby boomers, have no will when it comes to religion… Exactly why I can conform to any major religion. Look at what those people are doin with their power to influence… Totally appalling.
I think that churches like the one in Blackkick, Ohio are teaching GLBT youth to hate themselves (and thus contributing to a legacy of suicide) and is driving the sad impression that every Christian does (or should) have a problem with homosexuality. To my way of thinking, they are worshiping something other than God. I don’t know their God. This is a church that is more concerned with building walls instead of bridges. They are more concerned with supporting a scripture that divides us instead of bringing all of us together.
If you think about it, the sign must have seemed rather funny. If you weren’t familiar with the song, then you would have probably assumed that it were a guy who “kissed a girl”. And if you thought that the church was saying that he went to hell for that, you would really think the church was a bunch of fanatical loonies.
Exactly Bunny. Such performances make it more difficult for all of us.
This type of thing clearly places into someone’s mind that they just switch off and on the ability to be gay.
I had forgotten about Tatu (along with most of the rest of the world) but that is a perfect example. It’s just the same as being “gay for pay.”
Trace – I agree .. for example, Tatu .. the red-hot lesbian schoolgirls from Russia .. who neglected to mention the fact that they both had long-term boyfriends, and were not lesbians “off-stage”
To those who inevitably ask, “Don’t these churches or their leaders know that they’re harming gays?”, the answer is, “Yes, of course they do.” In fact, that’s the point.
Example: Whenever a law to protect gay students from bullying is proposed or passed, religious conservatives are usually first in line to obstruct or overturn it. They don’t oppose laws protecting kids from being bullied for their religion. So why do they oppose such protections for gay kids? Because bullying makes gay kids feel bad about themselves. And, more importantly, it makes gay kids afraid to be out to others and to work towards social acceptance. That repression, no matter how physically and mentally harmful to kids, is exactly what religious conservatives want.
Bottom line: If you hate gays, the easiest way to vent and impose your hatred and still remain respectable is to hide it under cover of religion and morality.
there have been gay for 1000 years and ther will still have gays in 1000 years ,how come the churche need to juge me for my sexualite preference if they do we can call this a sexuelle discrimination ….. i think
if i have to choice i still prefere to me a gay person then to be a pedofilia and been protected by the church …..
Plus what is wrong buy loveing someone that you love and is the same sex please wake up try to live in the 21th centry.
My soul is troubled by the negativity that this sign signals to the community at large. As Christians, we are called to be respectful and loving toward our neighbors, honoring their intentions even if we disagree. We are also called to be truthful in all things, to “put away falsehood” (Eph 4:25) and refrain from slandering, belittling, or speaking out of contempt for anyone.
As a member of a diverse United Methodist Church in East Akron, Ohio
I am quite discouraged by this type of action by my “Christian brothers and sisters” and wish to challenge them
to understand that their actions are
not keeping with the teachings of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

No “J”, you have obviously not seen the video or read the lyrics.
I’ve never heard of this singer until this story broke. I’m certainly hoping that she is just a flash in the pan. With the attitude portrayed in this song, it gives others the ammunition to say “see they’re not really gay.”
Looks to me more like a warning against heterosexuality. Maybe what they really need there is a smarter pastor.
Hate is hate, no matter how you paint it… This sign is just more hateful rhetoric, but it doesn’t surprise me one bit, because I have heard worse from religious zealots. They claim to preach G-d’s love, but they are just cackling hyenas dressed in religious garb…
I think the church is mad cuz we stole their theme song and rewrote the lyrics. Originally I think it went like this….
This was Always the way I planned
My true intention
I got so brave, Kneeling
Found my exemption.
It’s not what, I should do
Just wanna turn him on
I’m curious if you
Will accept my gross deception.
I kissed an alter boy and I liked it
The taste of his cherry chap stick
I kissed an alter just to try it
I hope my Flock don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed an alter boy and I liked it
I liked it…
Sorry, guys I can’t seem remember the second or third verses. I had to stop attending Mass, cuz I couldn’t afford the fees anymore. You know that 2nd, 3rd, and 4th offering they kept asking for, like bad creditors, to help pay for the struggles and hardship the church has had to endure in having to pay off the lawsuits. Hey !!! maybe someone still active in Sunday School can help us out here. I pretty sure the song is taught as a prerequisite to that other Sunday School fave, This Little Lad of Mine… I’m gonna make him shine. Someone. Anyone. Help me out here. Thanx.
On a more serious note, though .. this makes me ashamed to live in Ohio. We see signs like this all the time. Not always “warning against homosexuality”, but about all sorts of “sins” that can send you to hell. Especially in the small towns, like where I live. People in Ohio are VERY religious. In my town we DO have a few openly gay couples, but only women that I know of. As I’m sure you all know, lesbians are “more acceptable” than homosexual men to much of the world.
