Church sign attacks gays

(Blacklick, Ohio) A church in Blacklick, Ohio, is making a statement using Katy Perry’s song “I Kissed a Girl.”

Havens Corners Church put up a sign with the lyrics “I kissed a girl and I liked it” and an additional line that reads “Then I went to hell.”

The pastor says the sign is a warning to teens about homosexuality.

He admits the sign has confused some people who either don’t know the song or don’t understand the message.

The director of a gay rights group says she understands the message just fine: that the church isn’t very accepting.

    • I am a gay Christian man in a gay welcoming church that does real good for the surrounding community and that is accepting of everyone gay, atraight and of all of humanity.

I disagree with the sign, and I disagree with some of the posters on the various postings on 365 gay.com. Christ himself said nothing about gays, there is the story of great friendship and love between Jonathan and David, etc.
So love and bonding between men devoted to each other is not prohibited there. I believe that what is said is that people are to love one gender at a time and not to be promiscous is what is being said.

I hear a lot every Sunday things that are relavant to my everyday life like welcome the stranger and the foreigner Bible says to not vex or trouble them, do right by the lesat of humanity, feed the hungry and clothe the naked, love thy neighbor, and much more. These are things of just common decency good for any period of time and not some “outdated mythology” and are things our church takes very seriously.

    • As a Christian, that sign saddens me a great deal. If the “city on the hill,” “the light of the world” can only point an accusing finger and pronounce damnation on teens who have a struggle with any sin, sexual or otherwise, it appears that the church is weak and cannot offer the hope of deliverance. Though it can!

If I was a teen struggling with an issue that was assigned damnation, I would plunge wholly into that sin perhaps. Why not? I will end up in hell anyhow.

Better to have a sign that shares the power of the gospel, the unconditional love of God, and the welcome and compassion that the church should minister to people no matter what they do.

      Just my two cents.

    • Thank you Tom,
I ‘m glad you liked our letters. It comes from my heart. Sometimes it does seem to be a lonely world where no one cares. When I got sick with diabetes something made me change my whole attitude or I’d never get well. I don’t know where the stremgth came from I always had thought of myself as weak. Anyway I DID CHANGE MY THOUGHT AND ATTITUDES TO ONE OF OPPTIMISM AND HOPE AND TO BE TOLERANT AND KIND TO PEOPLE iUSED TO BE MEAN TO.
I did not go to any building to gain faith or strength to get through this. Did it on my own.
So as this was about different religions and I’ve not solved the problem, that is one main reason that I don’t have alot of faith in them because of their hate of gays and every one no hetero. In the end they won’t matter even to their faith because to belong will cost a fortune. WHAT?
I’m gonna enjoy the rest of the evening. Phil and I just finished watching STANDING UP FOR CANCER. Really good and totallly serious. Keep up your chins we love you. Bye

    • Big deal. You kiss a girl and don’t go to a mythical place that doesn’t exist. They’re gonna have to do better than that…

Seriously…is this 1008 or 2008. As a species we are doomed if we are still trying to manipulate thought and act by preying upon stupid peoples’ fear of death. That’s all these crazy religions do. Think for yourself. Live a good life based upon a moral compass grounded in the present and not thousands of years ago with no regrets and die with dignity. Show me a religion that believes that and I’ll sign up. Otherwise their stupid threats and lies just ring hollow. Unless you believe in and need heaven. Then I feel sorry for you…

    • It is so sad to see that a person who claims to be a religious leader can spew such hate and justify it as the word of God. I say let God judge what is right or wrong, and humans should worry about their own actions. How un Christian to judge others and think your way is the only way. Who is really the sinner? God will judge them for it. What hypocrites!

    • How sad that once again a tax free property is being used to attack tax paying members of our society, and to spread hatred and bigotry. Haven’t the recent murders of gay people yet demonstrated to these “church leaders” what spewing bigotry has brought about? These so called “Christians” have not earned and do not deserve the title. It is doubly shameful that any minister would foment such hatred. Don’t these “men of the cloth” know that “as you sow, so shall you reap”? Blessed be the Unitarians and other welcoming churches who know that Christianity welcomes all, and observes the admonition “judge not lest you be judged.” As for the others, ponder this admonition well–it applies to YOU also!

    • I agree with Roger, the churches and Christian religion have beat this bigotry and hate teachings into the ground and all being against everything the bible teaches, the ten commandments etc. It is way past time and well over due that ALL churches and religions be taxed to the hilt as a public business and pay their fair share of the “collection plate” and hate management they all seem to not only get enjoyment out of but actually believe themselves. When the churches took the message of hate into the pulpit and into the public they stopped being religious and put themselves in the gutter with all the other organizations that teach and preach hate. Let them pay, let them all pay a very heavy “hate tax” as we all pay for the sin tax.

    • Did the sign also list the time for the casting of the first stone?

  • SteveMD2 Said: September 6th, 2008 at 1:28 am
    • Just a sign that they have so little to offer, that hate is the only way they maintain their ‘flock’. Just like Hitler used to gain total control and give us WWII. Just like radical Islam uses to give us 9/11

a 2 year course in brainwashing and hatred, and the history of religions should be a national requirement for high school graduation.

Maybe then we can start to break mankinds worst failure and emotion.

And don’t let these churches get away with saying “we love you BUT…” It is really we will love you if you do what WE say, and hate you if you don’t.

We are fighting two wars on terrorism. One of course is radical Islam. The other is radical Christianity, and even the orthodox Jews. Imagine -some of the people whose predecessors shared hitlers crematoriums are also filled with hatred and the ancient ignorance of the bible, where women who are adulterers are to be stoned to death (of course that doesn’t happen, but the ultra orthodox in Israel in their Parliment have said that “gays are like bird flu”. A call to genocide! And my wife expects me to go to visit Israel? Fat chance while they let those freaks speak out.

    • Don’t these churches and so called “men of God” realize that putting up hateful sentiments like that is what causes LGBT people so much pain in their lives?
Homosexuality isn’t the problem and it never was. It’s hate and ignorance that plague the gay person today as well as yesterday.

  • Trace Said: September 6th, 2008 at 7:59 am
    • WOW

I’m not sure what is more offensive…

The sign or the video and song.

Now wonder so many people still believe that homosexuality is a choice. Songs and performers (like this Katy Perry) perpetuate the mythology that people choose to be gay or straight.

  • Gay "J " Said: September 6th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
    • Oh so now just kissing a girl will make you gay. Trace your comment is offensive. Katy Perry’s song is light-hearted and in no way homophobic or derogatory.

    • Conservative extremist religous organizations are all the same – hateful, prejudice, and intolerate. I remember the taliban in this light. They need to be controlled by the separation of church and state. HEAVEN help us if organizations like this get a deeper grip in America. Get out your burkah girls. All hell will break loose if that ever happens. When will these backwooded ass people ever understand? Jesus Christ, forgive em because they’re too ignorant to know what they do.

    • “I went to church, and I liked it ..
and then I went on a sadistic killing spree to rid the world of sinner’s, in God’s name.”
