@subseeker: You claim to be such a rational person but your arguement holds no weight or rational. Lets say you are correct that being gay is a choice "a lifestyle". So what. Your religious beliefs are a CHOICE and are protected under our constitution. Whether or not I was born gay or just choose to be gay is not the point, the point is that I am denied basic rights that are alloted to others by our constitution. You are trying to force your religious beliefs through our government and our constitution clearly states that we do not allow for that. The question at bay is of marriage equality - if the US Government grants 1200+ rights to those who enter into this contractual agreement between consenting adults, but then denies a minority group the same opportunity - that is blatant discrimination and unconstitutional. Whether or not I am a minority by choice or by birth matters not. I am a full taxpaying citizen who wishes to enter into a marriage contract with another consenting adult and the government is saying that I cannot, I cannot receive those government benefits that go along with that, that my children (yes, gay men have kids, as do our fabu lez. sisters) do not share in the same protections as those from heterosexuals, and those of us in relationships actually end up paying a higher tax rate than heteros living in similar situations...and believe me there are many more inequities than just this small set.

For the record, you say we can throw our science out the window because "thousands" have renounced homosexuality and live pretend lives as heterosexuals...what you fail to mention is that they never stop being a homosexual (you just want us to go away but not matter what we will not)...they just stop having OPEN homosexual relationships...what you fail to realize is that even if they stop "practicing" same-sex love they are still homosexuals. As a gay man, I am way more than my natural sexual desires...it is part of who I am, but does not fully define me. If I choose to be celibate, that doesn't change the fact that I am a homosexual amongst other things. Your arguement is based simply on a religious dogma that constitutionally hold no value. Until society recognizes the innate nature and value of all her people, we will continue to have dispicable acts by so called "straight" people who feel they cannot live an open, honest life...ala Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, etc. etc. etc.

Oh goodness, why has the reason of so many people been absolutely deluded? It is sad to see so many people, state their ignorance so loudly. Normally people who don't know, are quiet, that way they end up looking kind of smart. The vast majority of nonsense posted on this blog shows not many people have learned that lesson. Look, this is a choice. You can take all your scientific studies and throw them on their learned ear, because they aren't worth the paper they are written on. There are thousands of people who practiced homosexuality, and now are happily celibate or engaged in heterosexual marriages. There are no women who repented and became men, and certainly no african-americans who repented and became white, but there certainly are thousands, and I have included a few stories, of homosexual behavior choosers who have overcome. That is the difference. This rubbish about it being a right, or discrimination, or bigotry being involved is so much hogwash, and is a waste of a reasoning person's time to even consider. The reason why this is so big an issue is so many people are controlled by their lusts, straight or not, and if you are controlled by your feelings, this argument for gay marriage makes perfect sense. Laissez-faire, right! live and let live. That kind of apathetic indolence leads to the fall of empires, and ours will soon follow that path if this ridiculous approval of an immoral, vile, abominable choice is upheld.

I wish somewhere in this review there would be a discussion of relative harm. Pro-8 supporters will suffer negligible harm on a personal level if struck down. If it is upheld, the SC will support legislated discrimination, dual-class citizenship, religious intolerance, and dehuminization of a minority. That would be a sad day, indeed, for the state of California.

After the oral arguments, the court has 90 days to render a verdict. Typically the court announces rulings on Mondays & Thursdays, so the last date by which the ruling would be released would likely be Monday, June 1st.

"You ask for tolerance but you practice intolerance against those who wish to uphold family values.- Ann.'

What values are those? Hate? Exclusion? Religious oppression?

Those may be the values which rule your family. They are not in mine.

Being tolerant of evil and ignorance is not admirable. Embracing love, diversity and equal human worth under the eyes of our Creator would be more worthy. You are selfishly, childishly seeking to hang onto marriage as a solely heterosexual institution instead of sharing it AS IS REQUIRED BY OUR LAWS with you fellow gay Americans.

Ana,
This time this piece of vile discriminatory garbage A.K.A. to the gay community as Prop H8, passed by only 52%. THAT IS ONLY 2% OVER HALF of those who voted on this despicable nonsense, a very slim majority.
What a shame we don't get to level the playing field by being allowed to vote on your marriage!!!

Why should you, Ana get a free pass and be allowed to roll around and wallow in "heteroosexual priviledge" and elitism while our community once again gets sticks and stones thrown at it in the form of Prop H8?!

AND "THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE"??? WHAT KIND OF SCREWED-UP RUBBISH AND NONSENSE IS THAT??
Are you implying that gay Americans are not part of the people with rights, intents and wills of their own?

Is it right to treat gay Americans as if they were only 3/5ths human? Not fully people in their own right? The same way Africans were thought of and treated when they were dragged here to do the dirty and laborious jobs my fellow white men back then were too proud, too lazy and too high-brow to do. They turned people not from this place into beasts of burden so to speak, while killing off the native people who were here long before the white men invaded and conquered their continent.

Are you so deluded that you think by coming here and throwing you bitter gall in our faces, that we will turn
into more Anas bringing misery to others?

That is what you are doing, you are bringing misery here. Ana, you are a thorn amongst roses. You brought sorrow, heartbreak and misery to one of our black brothers with your judgementalism.

And talk about family values, I have seen watched and listened to some very loving gay parents who many more family values than you will have in your life, lady.

You attacks on my community members and their loved ones are very antifamily attacks. We who have loving, devoted and committed partners see them as family and love them dearly.

I KNOW OF GAY COUPLES WHO ARE MY FRIENDS AND WHOM HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR OVER A DECADE. Some of them coupled together for 16 years, 25 years, 14 years. I lived together with another man for 18 years. Some of my friends have been together in loving and faithful relationships for longer than many straight couples.

We are wiser and stronger than your lies, Ana and we will resist you and stand up to you.

to the OTHER Tom - the last time I checked, God was supposed to have made ALL humans, not just straight ones. You must be of the sort that wishes to take Christ out of Christianity. I agree with whan another Poster said - we need low lifes like you - it makes things so much more easier in the long term.

If Ana is indeed a "real" person, then I find it amusing that black people could possibly be so stupid as to think Civil Rights began and ended with them - or slavery for that matter. Women and gays have been fighting longer for their rights than blacks have ever had to do. And the first slaves in this country were white, not black.

Tom, we want a supreme court that will protect the rights of the minority from a tyranny of the majority. If you don't like same sex marriage, then don't marry someone of the same sex. Stop commenting on something you do not understand. I am a taxpaying gay citizen of this state and I will fight for equality until my last breath. And when I am dead, I pray I won't have to spend eternity with people like you. I hope there is a gay heaven, it will be marvelous.

For the judges that are up for re-election, let's vote them out. Let us vote in judges that will listen to the people of California Let's vote in judges with a conscience. They should not listen to the perverse that try and push their agenda on those that do not agree with their lifestyle. Please, no Sodom and Gomorrah. Stop the impurity that leads to the lust of their hearts for the mutual degradation of their bodies. They want to trade natural relations for unnatural. There's a big difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do.
