Loading ...Brothers beaten after attackers thought they were gay

(New York City) Four attackers may have mistaken two brothers walking arm in arm as gay before using an aluminum baseball bat, a bottle and their feet to beat one of them into critical condition. He died Monday in a hospital in New York City, police said.
One of the attackers used an anti-gay slur when first confronting the brothers, Ecuadorean immigrants who were walking down a Brooklyn street early Sunday after a night of drinking. The assailants also used anti-Hispanic insults, city officials said at a news conference.“We believe all of this happened simply because of who these individuals are and who these perpetrators perceived them to be,” said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. “For some reason (they) didn’t like the two men they believed were gay … and felt so emboldened in their hatred that they acted it out in violence.”
The four attackers were described as riding in a burgundy sport utility vehicle. No one has been arrested.
Police said the attack occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sunday as the brothers neared their home on foot. One attacker jumped out of the SUV, used the anti-gay slur and smashed one of the brothers over the head with a bottle.
As the other brother ran away, three men exited the vehicle and joined the assault, police said. One hit the victim in the head with the bat while the others kicked him.
At some point, the other brother returned holding a cell phone and told the men he had called police. They then drove off together.
The 31-year-old victim was rushed to hospital but died Monday, said police, who did not release his name or that of his brother.
The office of Brooklyn prosecutor Charles Hynes and the New York Police Department’s Hate Crime Task Force were investigating. They urged the public to help identify the attackers.
Hynes “is shocked and appalled at this senseless, bigoted, brutal act,” said Assistant District Attorney Charles Guria. “We need people out there who have any piece of information to please come forward.”
Blame it on deluded Christians and their teachings.
David : We don’t know that. Maybe if those African-American attackers DID attend a Christian church instead of listening to gangsta rap they wouldn’t have killed. We might think black Baptist churches try to push their religion on others, and maybe they do, but at least they DO tell people not to kill. Let’s be fair.
ok kids, first the bad news! We had the death penalty, finally, in NY some years back and suddenly we don’t any more! A mutt recently got convicted of killing an off duty NYPD officer who interrupted him and his daughter’s boyfriend(the kid in Bronx Tale and a minor Soprano’s actor) who caught them trying to break into a house where they thought they could find drugs. He was convicted of first degree murder and got life without parole! If they catch these animals do u think they’ll get that or maybe 20 years to life, eligible for parole after 10 years with time off for “good behavior”? Especially since the victims are probably illegal aliens? If it goes to trial and not the usual “lets make a deal” plea bargin! Law & Order is a TV show and its DA’s have a much higher standard of justice than the REAL Criminal Justice System in NYC! BTW before all u flaming bleeding hearts get your panties all in a bunch the term MUTT is NYPD slang for ANY suspect in a heinous crime regardless of race, religion, nationality or sexual persuasion. Thats not to preclude some of New York’s Finest from using some less than PC terms as it’s not a perfect city or world. And please lets stop with this TOLERENCE BULLSHIT! U tolerate hemerroids until u can get rid of them. U don’t want to keep them forever like a US Senate seat! We should be demanding the Respect the Constitution says we’re entitled to and if that flies in the face of some god’s rules let the faithful pray to it to punish the “offenders”! But if they decide to act because their almighty god doesn’t, then arrest them, try them and execute them. And the TRUE FAITH Bullshit again! Unfortunately, being human and not wanting to admit we don’t know if this life is the only one we get, the more faithful of our true faith we can get to believe the surer we become that our Faith is the one real truth! Morgan, THOUSANDS of people every month, the media only reports the really outrageous brutality. As a resident of NYC I’d say about a hundred a month, in EACH of the 5 boroughs of NYC. What must the numbers be in Tupelo, Mississippi? We’ve been averaging about one “front page” gay bashing incident a month this year and the money crisis has’t even hit bottom yet! We’ll be easy targets then because u know ALL gays & lesbians are filthy rich! As for the late at night thing… yes and no.. sort of like blaming the rape victim for wearing a short skirt, she was asking for it! One of the great things about NYC is it is a 24/7 town I don’t want to give that up to these MUTTS. Hope that Rev. Al Sharpton jumps on this one with his usual pit bull tenacity. For all his faults, he’s consistantly been in our corner even when it wasn’t the best choice for his “career” in the black community that is his base! The four attackers were black men? It didn’t say that in this article, I assumed they were white. Well u know what happens when u ASSUME! I really have to find a REAL news site to vet these stories before I comment on them! Although this does make my previous remark about Rev. Al all the more…what’s a good word?….suspenseful! WE SHALL SEE! A couple of months ago it was 3 white males luring a black gay man, thru the internet, to a mugging when he broke away and was hit (and eventually died)fleeing into traffic on the Belt Pkway! The homocidal hate of our kind is alive and flourishing in all races, creeds, nationalities, cultures and even tribes. So it has always been and unless we fight back, so it shall ALWAYS be! The only good homophobe is a DEAD homophobe!

This is either a lie to dilute the truth or just a complete misunderstanding. First, one isn’t believing that there is no god–one is believing that in order to BELIEVE something, a shred of positive evidence needs to be offered to believe it…more than a shred…none of which religion can offer. WHere’s the faith in that?
Second, how can FAILING TO BELIEVE in something require faith? How is the lack of faith a faith based claim?
We need not distinguish who’s to blame here, specifically. It’s sexism and homophobia, of course, and they are as interelated as religion and homophobia. You can’t with any degree of plausibility suggest that religion isn’t to blame, as religion is a big part of the puzzle here that serves to perpetuate sexist and homophobic memes and dehumanize lgbt americans. It’s hardly either or and oversimplifies the issue by suggesting that it is. Sexism, homophobia and religious intolerance are all prominent features in this country, and in–no surprise–the black community…and the white community, too.
Mickey, I agree with wanting them to suffer, but don’t think the tax payers should foot the bill forever. Maybe it is cheaper to simply do away with them. Like wevtake out the trash!
