(Brasilia) A Catholic priest serving in the Brazilian congress has been temporarily suspended from his priestly duties for supporting the free distribution of condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS.
The Rev. Luiz Couto has been suspended from his work in the northeastern state of Paraiba.Archdiocese spokesman Eisenhower de Albuquerque says the church took the action because of Couto’s public stance “in favor of the use of condoms, his support of gay marriage and his opposition to priestly celibacy.”
Couto spokesman Jose Moreira says the priest is not a gay-marriage advocate but is an opponent of discrimination “including discrimination against homosexuals.”
When will the Catholic church wake up?
With AIDS being what it is, one would think educating the “flock” on how to protect itself would be an issue. People have sex. All kinds of sex and anything that can be done to prevent the spread of AIDS should be incouraged.

Not only has the RCC been asleep for hundreds of years, but they have done their best to put everyone else to sleep as well. They are pretty much directly and solely responsible for the dark ages that put independant thinkers asleep for over 800 years. Freedom of thought and organized religion don’t mix.
God forbid the Catholic church should ever err on the side of compassion, let alone rational thought.
They tell people not to have sex. Expect thousands that work for them to be celibut for their entire lives. If someone does get pregnat while stupily following their advice not to use Birth Control they are expected to give birth,
call it a miricle and expect God to provide. Or give it to one of those imainary perfect Man amd Woman couples that want to adopt a potenally drug or alcohol damaged baby.
This “Church” causes so much suffering especially for the poor that do not have access to education. Then they do their darn best to make sure no evil gays or lesbians have any legal protection. They “care” about every drug and alcohol damaged fetus that will cost the state thousands in foster care, medicare, and yes prison, yet do not care when evil LGBT sinners are murdered.
