Biden to address LGBT group

(Washington) Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Senator Joe Biden will be the featured speaker at a fundraising event next month for the nation’s largest LGBT civil rights group.

The Twelfth Annual Human Rights Campaign National Dinner will be held in Washington on October 4th.

HRC endorsed the Democratic presidential ticket in June and took an active role at the Democratic National Committee Convention in Denver.

Biden has consistently scored among the highest in Congress on LGBT rights, HRC said in announcing Biden’s appearance at the dinner.

“I’m honored to participate in this event. Discrimination has no place in this country and I am proud to stand with HRC in the fight to end it,” Biden said in a statement released by the HRC.

“Barack Obama and I will bring the change we need in Washington.  The Bush Administration’s policies have been disastrous for the LGBT community and a McCain administration would just mean four more years of the same.”

Biden’s record in Congress includes opposing a federal constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage; supporting the Employment Non-Discrimination Act; favoring a repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell; and expanding existing hate crimes law to include the LGBT community.

“Senator Biden’s record in the United States Senate is one of support and understanding that has been unwavering throughout his career. In this critical election year, his outspoken advocacy for the LGBT community is invaluable,” said HRC president Joe Solmonese.

Personal finance expert Suze Orman will be presented with the group’s National Equality Award at the dinner.

Past National Equality Award recipients include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, tennis legend Billie Jean King, musician and activist Cyndi Lauper, actress Jessica Lange, Bishop Gene Robinson, and director Steven Spielberg.

More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the event at Washington’s Convention Center.

    • Bravo Joe Biden, you are a beacon of fairness who believes in and fights for full equality for LGBT Americans.

Compare Biden’s record to Sarah Palin’s who HRC has just profiled on their website http://www.hrc.org:
One of the questions the conservative Eagle Forum group asked Palin in 2006 on their questionnaire was her views on expanding hate crimes laws. The question reads, “Will you support an effort to expand hate crimes laws?”

      Palin answered, “No”

Another question from the same survey asked, “Do you support the Alaska Supreme Court’s ruling that spousal benefits for state employees should be given to same-sex couples? Why or why not?”

Palin answered, “No, I believe spousal benefits are reserved for married citizens as defined in our constitution.”

And last, but not least, Palin was asked what her top three priorities would be while Governor.

Palin answered, “#2 - Preserving the definition of ‘marriage’ as defined in our constitution.”

Palin is a stealth religious right wacko candidate who wants to be President and destroy all further opportunity for progress for LGBT Americans.

    • HRC (HAPPY to ROCK with your CONTRIBUTIONS) erroneously claims:

“Senator Biden’s record in the United States Senate is one of support and understanding that has been unwavering throughout his career. In this critical election year, his outspoken advocacy for the LGBT community is invaluable,” said HRC president Joe Solmonese.”

      …Preceded by Bidden‘s “unqualified“ (snicker…snicker) support:

“I’m honored to participate in this event. Discrimination has no place in this country and I am proud to stand with HRC in the fight to end it,” Biden said in a statement released by the HRC.”

Bidden then (one hand held out for cash; the other with crossed-fingers behind back) joyously proclaims:

“Hey, forget that I voted for DOMA, guys! Forget that I stated that Marriage is a right reserved only for heterosexuals!”

“Hey, what the heck…this is a party! Right?”

      So….

      “…Get down…get funky…now give me all your money…”

      !!! Party on !!!

      * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

      ….hmmmmmmmm

What a bunch of f**king lemmings. You’d think that the HRC, for all our donations, would at least send us an autographed photo of Joe Solmonese kissing the Senator’s derriere on our collective behalf.

They get the Champaign and Caviar ….and all we got was Spam (literally — check your mailbox from the HRC).

      …oh well.

      :(

PS PS - Oh, Barrack thanks for the corsage, but I’m sorry I couldn’t make the other fund-raiser with Donnie. Maybe next time. I’m still not finished with the whole “praying the gay away” thing. But I’m working on it.

    • Hey Bud, tell your cartoonish characterizations of Biden to all the lesbians and gay men fired from their jobs because of their sexual orientation - then having no recourse…

or to the families of those bashed because they were transgender and the perpetrators getting light sentences because of no federal hate crime laws…

or to the young brave lesbians and gay men who want to be out and proud and serve our country in the military, but can not bacause of don’t ask don’t tell…

Yeah, go ahead and mock Senator Biden’s positions supporting our community on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, favoring a repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and expanding existing hate crimes law to include the LGBT community - when McCain is on record opposing all of those important and significant changes.

Sure pal, none of that matters…NOT!

    • Bud and Rachel are pseudo-intellectuals who couldn’t muster a useful retort so there respond with childish banter. These kinds of people are best ignored.

    • I wonder if anyone at HRC will ask why this ticket believes marriage is between a man and a woman. I wonder if they’ll ask why they don’t want to “move too fast” on the don’t ask don’t tell issue.

Who am I kidding? They’ll smile and open up their pocket books. Sad, Sad, Sad.

    • Dearest Chris Sullivan and JohnM try sticking to the issues and let’s not get into ad hominid attacks. If you don’t agree with someone else, then by all means give a good counter argument. But, let’s face it, it is just retarded to attack a person you don’t know by calling them “pseudo-intellectual” and “stupid” and ….whatever. You lose any validity to whatever defense you are making for your point-of-view when you make personal attacks.

I have never, nor will I ever, refer to another poster by name unless I am complimenting them or unless I defending myself against an unwarranted attack. Most of the time I just ignore flamers who troll around looking to pick a fight. I prefer to stick to ideas not personalities. If I criticize some public official and you do not think that it is fair, then fine, tell us why it is not fair. Don’t attack the messenger’s intellect or morals or whatever; counter their message with a more convincing message of your own.

There is nothing wrong or “cartoonish” or “pseudo-intellectual” about anyone’s opinion. An opinion is just that — an opinion. It is not subject to someone else’s approval. Make your points and let others make theirs. You can always agree to disagree. Use self-restraint and don’t personalize someone else’s feelings on a public topic. Believe it or not, no one is actually talking directly to you when they are expounding on any given topic in this forum.

Now make nice and try to get along.

      :)

    • Hey Bud,
I gave three good reasons _ - or using your words “counter arguments, why we should vote for Obama/Biden. Or did you just skip over them as they were not convenient to your attack on me and Chris Sullivan. That’s a bit hypocritical of you don’t you think.

And when you call all people (including me) a f__king lemming for supporting HRC’s viewpoint on this issue, that is a personal attack, don’t you agree.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Try following your own advice and then maybe the perceived ad hominen attacks on you will end.

      Peace

    • Coming Soon - the Anniversary of Matthew Shepard’s Death. And Obama kisses up to that same perverse cabal of bigots who perpetuate the poisonous atmosphere of group-specific hate which crucified that innocent young man on a split-rail fence one cold, autumn night in Wyoming.

      Nice…really nice, Barrack.

Obama to Launch Another Faith Tour That Includes Rabid Anti-gay Supporter of Prop. 8 Which Would Ban Marriage Equality for Same-sex Couples.

According to the major GLBT publication, the Advocate:

“Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign is reportedly launching a “Faith, Family, and Values Tour” next week in California that will include Catholic legal scholar Douglas Kmiec as one of the campaign’s surrogates.

Kmiec wrote an op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicle this summer in which he urged SUPPORT for passing California’s marriage ban, Proposition 8.”

(From the Sept. issue of the Advocate — Check it out!)

      - - - - - - - -
Douglas Kmeic wrote, in his attack on marriage equality: “In a depopulating world, the claim that there is a universal right to marry regardless of gender becomes a frightening ally of a claimed universal right to access to genetically engineered children. People should reject this claim by returning traditional marriage to its rightful place.”

This guy, Obama’s new friend, is a dangerous loon. He believes same-sex marriage will lead to the end of civilization because same-sex couples may someday make cloning more popular than the old fashion way of reproduction. WTF!!!

…Yep, a good friend you got there Biden. No wonder Mr. Two-face wasn’t at the HRC Pander Party. Obama was too busy schmoozing up to our most powerful enemies amongst the bible-bigots who are trying to overturn marriage equality in California. Obama’s new pal makes Fred Phelps look sane. And that’s a stretch.

Jeez, wake up and smell the blood pouring from the knife wounds in your own back people! Obama has no scruples at all.

If the old saying: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” rings true, then the opposite is correct as well.

The friend of my enemy is my enemy.

When are the poor self-deluded, blind Lemming followers of Obama in the GLBT community going to see that they are being used and then herded toward the cliffs after the election? Hell, he is even doing it now in front of our very faces. Obama is telegraphing the evidence of his inner contempt and apathy towards us and our causes in his continuing revised statements of non-commitment, and in his vile acts of embracing known homophobes.

Have you seen Obama court anti-abortion activists? Well, guess what girls, Obama does have former Indiana Congressman pro-life Democrat Tim Roemer on the tour too. Hmmm…Planned Parenthood better start worrying.

But, I guess Obama does draws the line at a particular place. Barrack Obama has never invited an avowed racist or white supremacists to tour with him. Why not? Why is that off the table if he truly believes in reaching out to everybody? Where is the Grand Wizard of the KKK? What happened to Obama’s vision of “diversity” and reaching out to all of those who share different view-points? Or is it just the queer-haters that he thinks have a valid point-of-view?

      Hmmmmm…

“A friend to everyone is a friend to no one.” Do you think there just might be some truth to that old adage?

      …I do.
