I just need to say this whole religion thing is simply crazy.

here we have a good story showing humanists rising to the challenge of organizing and deciding how to contribute to society. Fairly simple.

Then we get:
-a sermon
-a religion employee disagreeing
-a number of atheist defending themselves
-a number of religionistas defending themselves
-a number of gay people apologizing for being religionistas

....I could go on.

Can we at least use our brains and agree on some basics:
-the whole idea of god or gods is ridiculous. Its a bunch of fairy tales. Please, grow up, get over your fear of the "consequences" and use your brain. Its simply stupid to believe that crap!
-Religion is an evil force and we must fight it, regardless of gay or not.
-there are no good religions/religion employees. Some hate less than others, some do not hate at all. They all seek to enslave your mind and control your actions for some purpose, usually involving money and political power, but not always. Sometimes just sex and exaltation are all they want.
-"religous people do a lot of good" or "people of faith support equality" are statements manufactured by our opposition to get us to take our eyes off the ball. True statements would be "good people are sometimes religious" and "people who support equality sometimes have faith". However, it is only a matter of time before the control of their brains is used for some other purpose.

We, of all people, the gays who have certainly seen the evil intent of religion first hand, should be able to be cured from religion.

For those of you who are gay and religious, I hope you will find a cure for this disease that eats away at your brain. No good ever comes of it. You are likely a good person but not because of your faith.

Please, use your brain, apply reason. There is only once conclusion if you do.

Once you do, join the fight. We must end religion if we are to save our race and the planet.

Hi Morgan from steve - you can guess who I am.

And you can bet I am a rabble rouser, dedicated to getting gays pissed, out of the closet, and demanding to be treated like everyone else.

There are good religions, and hatefilled religions. No wonder that there are aethists. I'm proud of my aethist son. I'm proud of my UU daughter and her husband. And I finally told our reform Rabbi goodbye because our liberal Jewish temple is in the closet on the gay issue, and Silence is not an option. My wife btw is pissed, but she'll get over it.

Aethists groups should reach out to progressive relgious groups, and other religious groups who show signs of change re supporting gay people.

And you form a bond, help the movement of the churches out of the closet re support for gays, and let them realize at the same time that if they don't support gays, there are going to be more joining the atheists.

Because if you look back over recorded western history, you'll see, and the churches need to be reminded, that most of the worst tragedies in human history were inspired or done in the name of God.

Personally, I have given up on christianity and any other religious belief. I would allow for some kind of deity, but whoever/whatever that is, it's not anything like what the bible or any other "sacred" writing describes.
As an example, any deity who gives its people a commandment to "not kill", then tells them they have been given land, all they need to do is apply a dose of genocide, and everything will be theirs -- well, that's just stupid.

I think these groups are great. They cause long-standing religious institutions to re-examine their traditions and ideologies. So much garbage has been added over the centuries and people have lost touch with the true nature of their origins.
You might call it theological housecleaning. Cleaning away dust and cobwebs is always good.
Sweep away!!

Religion or atheism is neither good nor bad. It depends on how people use religion or atheism to either elevate people or to beat them down. Both approaches to life can oppress or liberate depending on how people perceive them and make use of them.

In my life, I have seen both harm and good arise from both philosophies.

I guess I don't really have anything against it but I just don't understand having an atheist group. I think a coexist group would be better.
What is the point of reveling in your disbelief? Believing so strongly in disbelief is still believing in something.

People that aren't atheists can 'live and let live' too!

Adam Dale,

I have seen many very-gay supportive people of faith in the pro-marriage equality side of the street in the marriage-equality fight rallies in Boston in front of the Massachusetts statehouse time and time again with my own 2 eyes.

Atheists do not have a monopoly in being strong supporters of marriage equality as I have personally seen time and time again from both those rallies in MA and at marriage equality rallies here in my state Maryland (MD) every single year in our state capital city of Annapolis near where hearings on MD marriage equality take place. I have sat in on some of the hearings and have watched various MD legislators and verious speakers testifying. There have been people of faith as well as Equality Maryland (a very active and fearless pro-gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender-rights group)speak out on marriage equality. I've also heard a number of Maryland legislators speak out for marriage equality and do so both before Equality Maryland gatherings and in legislative marriage equality hearings.

The line that really stuck with me was when being bashed for believing in nothing. As an atheist, I think that this statement mischaracterizes atheism. But, that's just me.

Burton, is it really a wonder why gays have such disdain for religion and god and the bible? It shouldn't be. After all, god is just made up and you have no proof beyond a book written by bronze age nomads. And, above all, it's proven to be unreliable in the face of actual facts.

So now here i stand, as did Paul, before the members of the Temple of the Unknown God. It is quite understandable for some people not to believe in GOd or a god or goddess for that matter. We have only known separation from ourselves and our essence for so many millenia. Yes, ther is God. A very real loving merciful God who cares for us all even when we are not aware of His prescence. I am an African-American , Homosexual Christian. I guess I would call my self a 21st century homosexual in some aspect due to the freedom I have to even have the privilege of an education and the means to express myself in this manner without becoming"strange fruit".So to all who may have a question mark in their hearts; yes there is a God who loves you and awaits an audience with you. The name I know Him by is JESUS. I remember when I first began in college and one of my suitemates was very upset about my being closeted to the point of drawing a pentegram on the floor of our room and Calling me "nigger", but I resisted the urge to fight in honor of both Dr. King and Mr. Gandhi peace movements. So to all my fellow Christians keep loving everybody even when it hurts. And the gentleman is right those random acts of kindeness toward strangers matter greatly." Be kind to strangers as some have entertained Angels unaware". God is faithful even when we are not. May God open our eyes as he did in the situation between Elijah and Elisha so long ago. Give Thanks.
