Arrest in Dallas gay murder

(Dallas, Texas) A 29-year old man is charged with killing a gay Dallas man whose body has yet to be found.

Richard Hernandez, 38, has been missing for more than a week. When police, who were contacted by friends concerned they had not seen Hernandez for several days, entered his apartment, they found large amounts of blood.

Tests on material found in the bathtub showed them to be human remains.

Police believe Hernandez’s body was cut up in the tub and then removed.

Investigators discovered that Hernandez’s debit card had been used in the days following his disappearance. Use of the card led police to begin a search for Seth Lawton Winder.

He was arrested earlier this week for credit card fraud. The charge was upgraded to murder on Thursday.

Police say they are continuing to gather evidence in the case. They say they already have a bloody backpack found in a rural area where Winder had been camping.

The backpack contained property belonging to Hernandez.

In a subsequent search of a garage owned by Winder’s father,  a digital camera was found containing nude pictures of Winder that had been taken inside Hernandez’s apartment.

Winder’s father told the Dallas News that his son was mentally disturbed and was not allowed in the house.

The manager of Hernandez’s apartment building said that Winder had lived in the building at one time and had recently been seen near Hernandez’s front door.

A longtime friend of the victim told the Dallas Voice that Hernandez was openly gay, but that Hernandez had never mentioned knowing Winder.

Police are continuing the search for Hernandez’s body and say there may be additional people involved in the crime, because Winder did not have a car and the body would have to have been somehow removed from the apartment.

    • This sounds more like psychopathic behavior than a hate-crime. Actually, it mirrors a serial killer case I read about that took place in the 70’s.
As much as this bastard deserves it, he won’t get the death penalty. He’ll be kept in a comfy room with nice people to serve him for the rest of his life.
