Loading ...Anti-Gay Lawmaker Caught With Gun At Capitol

(Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) A state lawmaker who gained national notoriety with an anti-homosexual rant was stopped from entering the state Capitol Wednesday when she was found to have a loaded handgun in her purse, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Patrol spokeswoman Chris West said Republican Rep. Sally Kern was not charged because there did not appear to be any “malicious intent” behind her actions.West said officers are allowed to “use their brains” when determining if an arrest should be made in such instances.
West also confirmed a second incident in which Kern made it into the building with a gun in June.
Kern complained earlier this year of receiving death threats after an audio clip was posted on YouTube in which she calls homosexuality a bigger threat to the U.S. than terrorism.
Guns and knives are prohibited in the Capitol and those who enter must pass through an airport-style security checkpoint, including a metal detector and an X-ray machine. It is a misdemeanor to bring a weapon inside.
Kern told The Associated Press Wednesday that both incidents were simple mistakes.
The first time, the weapon got through the security checkpoint, she said.
“I got all the way up to my office before I realized I had it, so I reported it,” she said.
On Wednesday, she said she forgot to take the .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun out of her purse after she stopped to talk to a colleague.
“It was an honest mistake from being out of my routine, you know,” she said.
Kern said she had a permit for the gun and had carried it long before the YouTube controversy.
Once as “forgetting” is forgivable as a state legislator. But, a second time in the following month is an indication of a serious problem.
Sally Kern is a real threat to society and Oklahoma. She is on her way to becoming the next Dan White. Remember San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk?
Besides checking Ms. Kern for guns the Oklahoma capitol security would be best advised to also check her office for a stockpile of Twinkies.

It was Ms. Kern who compared gay folks to terrorists and said that we are out to
“destroy this nation.”
If anyone feels threatened it’s me. To my knowledge there are no roving packs of gay people out to hang Ms. Kern. However, she and her ilk and the words they speak do tend to inspire people to hurt gay folk. So who should feel more threatened?
Oddly, I don’t carry a gun…loaded or otherwise. But if I did, I bet the guards at the Capitol probably wouldn’t be so nice and understanding with me. Color me shocked!
I must admit that Both “Lisa Said” and “Ron” Have valid points. Still the “Letter of the Law” should Apply to ” All people Regardles of Race, Religion,Political Standing,” No Preferencial Teatment should be allowed. John Q citizen would not be Shown the same lattitude as Sally Kern. ” This Lady Broke the Law Twice and thus should have been charged/ her permit suspended pending psychiatric evaluation, and put on Admistrative leave from the State Legislature untill all evidence was in. Clearly there is something more going on here.
Several years ago (I think it was 1991) long before 9-11, a fellow worker of mine was arrested because she had a vegetable peeler in her briefcase when she started to enter City Hall in Kansas City, MO. We had a lunch at work and she had brought in carrots and the peeler. She spent two or three hours in custody until they decided it was an honest mistake. And this woman gets off trying to take a gun in.
So…since she works in the government she is above the law?? How do you forget you have a loaded firearm in your purse? and to forget it was there twice, can we say special privileged!
Just what the folks in Oklahoma need, a woman who fancies herself a modern day Anita Bryant carrying around a gun. I wouldn’t wanna be around when this half baked tart loses it.
Any one of us would have been arrested on the spot and would probably have received more than a misdemeanor. This sickens me. This lady is a threat to society and the cops “guarding” the capital are disgusting excuses for enforcing the law. If I worked in that building I’d be outraged!
I find it reprehensible that no arrest was made, especially considering this is the SECOND incident. I guess the laws you and I live under just don’t count if you are on the GOP hate monger bandwagon…

I have to believe if this were anyone else they would be sitting in jail. I am a supporter of all law abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms. But if this is the second time that Kern “forgot” she was carrying her firearm and brought it to the capitol, this clearly shows she is not a responsible person therefore her permit should be revoked. Further, simply stating I forgot is not an excuss for ignoring the law and she should have been charged with the crime. Can you imagine what would have happened if a law abiding gay person would have “forgot” they had their firearm on their person and attempted to enter a capitol building? I am sure this person would be charged with terrorist attempts on a government building.
And we are sure that she isn’t actually trying to get into the capital with a loaded weapon because…the security guards are using their brains(?)…and because she’s a really nice person?? o.O
Let me just add that while it is inexcusably psychopathic for anyone to have threatened her life, you can’t exactly expect not to enrage people when you vilify and compare to terrorists (!) an entire class of law-abiding, loving, taxpaying citizens without whom this society would be an immeasurably worse place.
The article’s reference to death threats is a homophobic red herring since she acknowledges carrying the gun before the YouTube video ever aired. She is one paranoid lady, probably a lesbian. Remember the old Freudian theory (paranoia = homosexuality)? There may be some truth to it in this instance. She is terrified that gay people (gay people!) will somehow irreparably harm her. It’s the rest of us who should be afraid of this lady’s carrying a loaded gun. She’s the one with violence on her mind.
