Seems that Wyoming has a surplus of elected officials willing and ready to promote the idea that WY is nothing but illiterate, sociopathic rednecks and sheepfuckers. Sometimes the message succeeds better than reality, which is a real shame for the majority of people in Wyoming. Then again, they let themselves be depicted as redneck sociopath sheepfuckers, so maybe it's a case of stereotype being rooted in truth. Dunno...

Discusted With America -- Don't be too hard on Wyoming. For starters they have relatively low unemployment compared to most states and have a budget that is fairly well funded.

More importantly, as a whole they have grown much more affirming of gay and lesbian people than the proponents of this bill indicate. I personally don't think this bill has a chance of winning -- particularly considering it requires 2/3 majority vote. If it gets that vote, it then has to still get a majority vote of the citizens and then get signed by the Governor. The chances of one or all three happening are very slim.

Many of the citizens have used the history of their past to learn from. I am not just referring to Matthew Shepard but a host of other events.

For instance, we are approaching the 5 year anniversary of "Brokeback Mountain". Just like "The Laramie Project", Brokeback Mountain has garnered much discussion and analysis by its local residents regarding the kinds of destructive homophobia that Annie Proulx used Wyoming as a prototype to describe in writing "Brokeback Mountain". They have learned and are eager to show us they are truly the Equality State that no longer is qualified to be the butt of Brokeback-styled jokes. Now is the perfect opportunity for them to show us just that.

They have also learned from the discussions on DADT and Calif. Prop 8. They now understand the straw man arguments and fear tactics that many of the proponents of this bill also used to help defeat Prop 8 and wielded against DADT. Because of all of that, there is little tolerance left for the kinds of bigotry that this legislator proposes in this bill.

There is a reason similar bills did not pass in the recent prior attempts. The hold that those with animus against gays thought they had in Wyoming has long ago dimished. Having more GOP lawmakers in this session helps some, but still is not sufficient to overcome those who over the past couple of years have grown to understand just how unconstitutional a bill like this is.

Nor are they willing to continue to vote bigotry into law anymore. Wyoming has learned from it's and other's past and is much smarter than to do that.

It doesn't surprise me that it is going through becuase the word doesn't get out here until its to late. The gay community, if you can even call it that doesn't keep people informed as to whats going on. I would agree with people that said Wyoming has not learned its lesson with Mathew Shepred situation. If ever state in the Union was to pass same-sex marriage laws...Wyoming will be the very last about 20 to 30 years behind, so don't expect anything soon in Wyoming...just keep watchin it go down the toliet.

Yeah... well, why NOT? From the bright minds that brought us DICK CHENEY, to the gatekeepers of morality that exterminated the menacing Matthew Shepard, WHERE WOULD THIS COUNTRY BE without the lighthouse that IS the Mensa state of Wyoming?

Well, at least this is how it should be done. Go to the legislature and have to pass a 2/3 vote. Not this voter initiative crap where all it takes is a petition.

hmmm I guess alls well in Wy? Great jobs, No-one losing thier jobs…no poverty…everyone has health care….cause this is what they find important to legislate? Just another reason for me to NEVER go there!

I could not agree with you more. FOF has had to lay off 20% of their staff, because some people are now having to do with their money what it's suppose to do, feed them and pay their bills, not give it away to these HATE groups.

If there is ever a blue sky in this economic down turn, it has to be less money to these EVIL HATE organizations.

How any legislator could vote for this and look anyone in the eye is beyond me.

WY. is this country’s capitol for one of the saddest stories ever told in America.

Just think of it, it’s folks like FOF (James Dopson and his elk) that are in part just as responsible as those who committed this hateful grotesque crime against a beautiful young American boy.

If there is a God,… there has to be a special place in hell for these people.
