Those who don't want equal rights are either ill-informed or selfish. I'm sorry... that's how I feel.

Seems to mr that the California Supreme Court has ripped equality to shreds by creating 3 classes of Californians: str8's who can have one man-one woman marriages, an elite group of Gays that had a limited time to marry the person of their choice and a bottom rungof Gays who are not allowed to marry. What does this say about California's so called Equal Protection clauses;oh yeah, they ARE clauses. I like the idea of striking the word marriage from all state laws. Because I believe that organized religion is the cause of all evil, I believe we all should never miss a chance to strike out against any thing Catholic, Mormon or Boy Scouts. Do Not forget the little bigots in training. When they do a fund raiser where I shop, I always tell them I will not support their bigotry.

From the last paragraph of this article one notes the words: 'church' 'people of faith', 'pastor' 'religious expression'. So, the main architects of this defeat of civil rights legislation, have religious motives.

As Christopher Hitchens would say, just another example of how the religious element, viz.in its more malignant manifestations, always finds a way to interfere and poison everything.

No one who paid attention to the oral argument could have been surprised at the decision. It is part of a larger problem with government in California, rule by initiative. They can't get a budget because of ignorant voters. This initiative process leads to the tyranny of the majority over the rights of minorities.

The buisinesses that supported and still support prop 8 have had no privacy since the initial passing, if you want to boycott them, the information will not be hard to find.

I'm afraid, living on the other side of the country in a state also pictured as gay-friendly though secretly hiding a deep-seeded hatred of gays (Florida, don't believe me? Look it up) There isn't much I personally can do for Californians, not from an economic stand point anyway...

Tony, the majority of gays aren't anti straight believe me. What we are against are the right wing religious bigots who think that christianity, among others owns marriage, even civil marriage. The two are very different. Civil marriage does not mandate or require procreation, religious fundamentlists believe it does. Further, referenda of any kind should never be allowed. If we'd done that during the Civil Rights movement in the 60's, African Americans would probably be in the same position as they were prior to winning their rights, rights that were legislated by the Supreme Court of the United States not by mob rule which is what Proposition H8 is all about. What the judges did yesterday was to uphold discrimination rather than guarantee equal rights for the minority, supported by the first 10 amendments to the constitution. Its going to fire back on them later rather than sooner.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/05/bush-v-gore-rivals-challenge-prop-8-in-federal-court.html

Federal challenges being filed as we blog. I am hoping gay and lesbian couples from other states, with amendments join the case and have all these god*amed amendments overturned. Romer vs Evans in the early 90s set a strong precedent against these kinds of amendments.
