From the article:
"There’s no question, Frank said, that the U.S. military is unique. But he said it should be embarrassing that “our allies can tell the truth about gay soldiers and the U.S. stands with China, Iran, North Korea among the nations that can’t.”"
Ah yes, even still yet further proof that America is indeed Number 1!
America is Number 1--among third world countries.
Isn't that what we always hear from the conservatives?
America has the best health care system...of the third world.
America has the best civil rights...of the third world.
Everytime they claim America is Number 1 in something, they have to compare it to such enlightened and capable nations as Mongolia and/or any other junta-based theocratic (read religious extremist) nation.
We've become such a joke.

The truly hysterical part about gays being subject to blackmail is only because gays cannot serve openly!
I'm so sick of breeders setting up the playing field and then stating that that playing field is why we can't play.
As for our military being different than European/Commonwealth military--that's because our society is different than theirs.
The USA is a socially retarded theocracy, so this point is basically accurate.
If any of the depictions of basic training in the US' services is accurate, the entirety of the training verbage is based on equating feminine and/or homosexual traits as a source of insult.
Just calling a trainee a "lady" (how does this work with actual lady trainees, anyway?) or constantly calling trainees queers and fags would then be kind of out the window and trainers might actually have to treat their fellow citizens with some form of respect.
So, yeah, our military is different, all right.
Of course, my opinion is that queers shouldn't bother serving in the military.
Why get shot at for a country that treats you like a second class citizen?
After all, war is a good way to thin out the breeders; keep their numbers in check.
After all, the way they breed, we'd be more overpopulated than we are now should we disable the most efficient means of killing them off.

'“We are the military leaders in the world - everybody wants to be like us,” said Brian Jones, a retired sergeant major who served in the Army Rangers. “Why in the world would we try to adjust our military model to be like them?”'

Just what the Spartans thought which eventually allowed Thebes to overrun them and end their 800 years of dominance.

If I recall correctly, some 64,000 gay and lesbian soldiers are serving in the military. Compare that with the 256 who have been discharged since Obama took office. That's about 50 per month. It's a drop in the bucket compared to the number of gay and lesbian soldiers. More people will come out, sure, but soldiers are out already. They're just not supposed to be.

Repealing DADT would have almost no effect on the military. The only important impact will be on gay and lesbian soldiers themselves. For them, a major injustice will end.

Someone I know brought up a troubling issue. She has told me that there are a lot of Dominionism currently in the army in positions where they could send men and women who do not meet their standards which are religion, sexual orintation, etc into situtations where they can get kill. My firend is a Pagan who has friends and family overseas. They write and tell her about some of the stuff these Dominionism pull. Including leaving you behind so that you can get killed. If the DADT is repealed, I believe it should be, would this put our friends and family in danger because of these Dominionism. Or should we wait till we are out of combat situtions where our gay brother/sisters would not be set up to be killed.

I'll say it again! It's because of the power of these christian religious fanatics. That's the reason DADT has not been overturned. We can thank the scumbags Bush and Cheney too! But now the dems and pres. Obama need to step up and get DADT overturned for good!

Yes there are some retire/non-retire officers that are for DADT, but at the same time there are 100 men and women in command that want DADT to be repealed.

As report by CNN November 17, 2008.
The statement signed by Larson and other top brass reads:

"We -- the undersigned -- respectfully call for the repeal of the 'don't ask-don't tell' policy. Those of us endorsing this letter have dedicated our lives to defending the rights of our citizens to believe whatever they wish. Scholarly data shows there are approximately 1 million gay and lesbian veterans in the United States today as well as 65,000 gays and lesbians currently serving in our armed forces. They have served our nation honorably. We support the recent comments of former chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. John Shalikashvili, who has concluded that repealing the 'don't ask-don't tell' policy would not harm and would indeed help our armed forces. As is the case with Great Britain, Israel and other nations that allow gays and lesbians to serve openly, our service members are professionals who are able to work together effectively despite differences in race, gender, religion and sexuality. Such collaboration reflects the strength and the best traditions of our democracy

What these old Ret military folks need to rememeber is that GAY already in the Military

Retired Army Lt. Col. Robert Maginnis, another supporter of the ban, contends that some field commanders in nations that allow gays to serve openly have resorted to “tacit discrimination” - excluding them from front-line units for fear that problems would surface in rugged, close-quarters living conditions."

Dumbass we are already on the Frontline and sharing "close-quarters living conditions."

Wish these RETIRED guys would shut up and butt out.

It's because of the evangelical, fanatical, so-called christians who have many of their kind in the military of the USA. They are a pathetic, narrow-minded lot and they have a-lot of power. They need to be exposed and then stopped. Soon!
