Hmmm. The West is open and accepting. African nations jail anyone who is different. Western nations are prosperous and strong, while African nations are collapsing, reeling from genocide and horrific poverty. Tolerance goes hand in hand with prosperity.

What does Belgium have to do with Africa or Africans?
Belgium is a European nation.
When discussing the very REAL pernicious poverty/war/famine/social retardation of much of the African continent, one is not “painting” ALL black ANYTHING.
The statements here regarding African nations are incorrect? Please point out which statements have been incorrect?
Have the other societies on the face of this planet not poured billions and billions of dollars into African “aid” to absolutely no measurable avail?
If there has been some massive improvement in these African cultures that I have missed, I would like you to tell me about them.
Also, if there has been massive improvements in these African cultures, then “aid” is no longer necessary and therefore, the discussion regarding continued “aid” is moot, yes?
Greg, dear, it is NOT “racist” to relate FACTS regarding a subject. It IS “racist” to dismiss those facts due to the color of the skin of those being discussed AS IF that were THE reason for bringing up those facts to begin with.
I haven’t read ONE discussion here which attributed the social and other retardation of the African “cultures” as being attributed to their color of skin.
Who knows why they are the way they are?
Who cares?
That’s the point: We want to STOP CARING, because “aid” and caring don’t seem to do any good–for the last century or so anyway.

I find it very difficult to believe that many of the previous comments were written by Gay men or women.
Could those of you who write ignorant and racist rants please go back to your straight blogs?
That said, I, too, am mad as hell at these ignorant and hateful government spokesmen.
But they are just that – political hacks no different than the American Republican Party which spews its own version of hate and disrespect to our community.
As to charitable aid to impoverished nations on the African continent, sure, there ought to be oversight measures; that is common sense, not blind stupidity.
Blaming Catholics, or some generic ‘African’ is ignorant and makes no sense – lest we forget that marriage equality is the law of the land in the very-Catholic nations of Spain and Belgium.
I would ask that the discussion take a hard look at the root causes of homophobia in many Black societies; including those here at home, those in the Caribbean, as well as in the African continent. But it is disrespectful and wrong to ‘paint’ all Black persons as homophobic – how on earth does skin color make any difference? Humans are humans, period. And anti-Gay bigotry is alive and well in societies and nations of all skin colors, sad to say.

Syphilis and ghonnorea (sic) have killed far more human beings than HIV ever could or ever will and are still doing so.
So, since heterosexuals are responsible for these STD’s, then the very things you call for for homosexuals due to HIV should be called down upon heterosexuals as well.

BTW, if HIV is such a gay problem…just like whether gay people get married or not…Why do you care?
What does HIV have to to with you, as a heterosexual, since it’s a homosexual disease?
What does same-sex marriage have to do with you, as a heterosexual?
Also, if HIV is such a concern of yours, wouldn’t legal same-sex monogamous marriage actually go a long way in preventing the spread of HIV?

ALL cultures historically at one time or another have been exploited.
It is the nature of competition and the evolution of social morale.
That is the point.
While part of the human society has evolved to realize that caring for each other and supporting each other results in the social and technological advancement of the species as a whole, there are those segments of mankind which have not evolved thru their exploitation.
European whites were probably never more exploited than during the genesis of the industrial revolution. Workhouses, child-labor, working for less money than it took to live to be able to work, endentured servitude, the entire concept of company stores and company living quarters.
And yet, thru this exploitation, the COMMON NON-”privileged” European white segment still managed to evolve, to elevate itself into what you view as a “privileged” state of being.
What? You think the descendents of the displaced Irish, the ENSLAVED WHITE EUROPEAN (hey, YOU brought up history! You conveniently have forgotten that DURING THE SAME TIME OF AFRICAN SLAVERY EXPLOITATION, white Europeans were ALSO ENSLAVED–Not to mention the centuries long enslavement of the Jews); the descendents of the virtually genocided Celts caught between the Christians/Muslims in their theocratic conflicts which continue to this day;
Do you think all of these white European descendents just woke up one day to indoor plumbing and rampant literacy?

The only difference, HISTORICALLY, that one can definitely put their finger on is that these white Europeans DIDN’T HAVE OTHER COUNTRIES POURING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS INTO “AID” FOR THEM TO EVOLVE.
They WORKED. They put extreme amounts of time and energy into LEARNING and becoming technologically savvy.
So…let us compare that evolution to what has happened in Africa that I have personally witnessed for the last 40 years.
I am now 51 years old. I do NOT recall a time in my life when there were NO commercials on television in this country calling for “aid” to the poor, uneducated, unmedicated, incapable, war-torn, famine-wrenched AFRICAN!
The Irish as a society lived through a famine…and then didn’t have another one!
American white European descendents lived through at least one major financially catastrophic and agriculturally devastating (Dust Bowl) “famine” in the laste 20’s/early 30’s, AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANOTHER ONE.
Face it.
AFRICANS DON’T LEARN.
They continue to stagnate, which does more to allow exploitation than anything else.
They continue to repeat the same cycles of want, disease, need, famine, etc. etc. etc. with little to no actual learning or changing from experience.
I contend that this continuation of “aid” is actually a contributing factor to this endless cycle of ineptitude.
Why should the people of Africa CHANGE or learn to ADAPT when all they have to do is hold their hands out in a pathetic puppy-eyed plea to the nearest TV camera, and us poor suckers just keep shoveling “aid” at them?
Face it: Europeans and white European descendents world wide have faced their eras of exploitation and won thru them thru ingenuity, adaptation, HARD WORK and determination.
So, you want to wallow in history? I suggest you read more history than that which just supports your own conviction of being pathetic.
Others will stop exploiting Africa when Africans, like everyone else, simply stand up and take care of themselves and stop looking to the rest of us who fight everyday to persevere and IMPROVE to rescue them.
It’s an old adage, but it is true:
