First Rick, the IRS, is not a federal agency, they are a private company whose headquarters are based in Porto Rico. Do you know what the Boston Tea Party was? As far as tax fraud, I am not hiding money, not withholding money if it's in escrow, waiting for a courts decision, not making false statements, but wanting a court to determine if may have a tax exemption!

I never said or asked anyone to boycott any gay community.

Rick why don't you come up with some suggestions, or would you prefer the gay community wait for some straight leader to rescue us!

You may be sick and tired of hearing about boycotts, I'm sick and tired of complainers who don't have a single thought or action about how to bring us together as a unit with the power to get us our constitutional equal rights.

I'm sure you will complain about me again, I really don't mind as long as you put in some positive comments of furthering our goal.

To Gay Republican, don't totally agree with you as well, but you have a good mind coupled with good suggestions.

Oh, Florida is a hate state for sure, but remember not so long ago we ALL lived in hate states and I don't think we should abandon our brothers & sisters who are on a particularly nasty battlefront. I say vacation in FL but only patronize gay-owned/gay-friendly resorts, restaurants, businesses as apparently there are plenty. It would be wrong to let them down. Consider it an activist vacation. We need to build islands of acceptance everywhere because understanding spreads one mind at a time. It's working in New England which, quite frankly, I never thought I'd see, and I say it can work even in Florida!

Sam,

Respectfully, I'm not missing your point. I just don't agree with it.

I realize that states benefit from tourist dollars as well, but there are ways to both minimize that benefit and maximize the benefit for individual communities and businesses in those states. It just takes careful planning to accomplish.

Granted, you obviously think that ANY gay money going to fund those state governments is unacceptable. My position is that some money going to those state governments is acceptable if the small communities in anti-gay states are being helped out to a significant degree. And if we fail to support the gay communities in the anti-gay states, I think we're basically abandoning them in their time of need.

It's easy for us to say to these gays that they should just move to Massachusetts or to a foreign country if the US gets worse. It isn't that simple for most people.

Also, I don't doubt that you've faced hardship because of your orientation. So have I. Homophobes suck, I agree. Why do you think I carry a weapon?

Anyway, that's just how I look at all. i am as tired of all this shit as you are.

I have had enough of the ridiculous calls to boycott Florida. I have news for you: not all of Florida is anti-gay. South Florida, in fact, is chock full of gay people. Both Broward and Dade Counties offer domestic partner registries. The only benefit the state of Florida receives from your dollars spent here are sales tax dollars and the property taxes and other fees businesses here must pay, whether you spend your money here or not.

Florida has no income tax, but the USA does. No matter where you earn your money in this country, the federal government that discriminates against you will get its share not only from you, but also from the businesses that profit from earning your business - even in your precious, perfect Massachusetts. I'm sure the IRS would love to learn who Sam is since the only way s/he could withhold a portion of his/her income taxes from the military in escrow would be by committing tax fraud. Forget the fact that none of us have a say as to where our actual dollars are spent!

Where is the sense in flushing your brothers and sisters down the toilet because of the state they live in? I will stand up for LGBTQI (and whatever other letters are PC) rights regardless of the city, county, state or country in which they reside. I will support gay businesses regardless of where I may be. We will only win the war by supporting each other, not by cutting off limbs (states) that offend us.

Special thanks to Trace, Josh and GayRepublican!

Gay Republican, in my opinion your still missing the point, it's not just businesses we should be boycotting, it's everything, all of it. Why should my money go to paying the salary of a bigot in state office, why should I contribute to their pensions. Revenues from traveling, vacations, etc. not only go to business, but to state revenue, making money for our detractors our foes, the oppressors of equality.

I'm from Massachusetts, but I was ready and determined to leave this state I loved and grew up in if they voted to take away my equal civil rights, even if it meant supporting the gay community from a foreign land.

I've had three friends murdered because of hate crimes, was almost a statistic myself, received over 110 stitches to the back of my head. The time to be subtle or polite for me is so over.

The way they train elephants in India is, when their juveniles, they tie a thick rope around one of their legs so they can only go a certain distance. When they become adults, they can easily break this rope, but are so conditioned they stop at the end of the rope.

IT'S TIME TO BREAK THE ROPE.

Now is the time to become relentless, never stop, never give in, or die fighting in the process. We don't fight because we deserve our equal civil rights, we fight because we demand our equal rights from birth, the same as all other free equal Americans, I repeat all equal Americans.

I'm more than mad, I have righteous anger, and will not bend or wait for anyone to give me what I own any longer, I have never heard denying straight people in the military their freedom of speech, this only applies to gay people, where is your anger, where is the outrage, I am withholding a portion of my taxes from the military and putting it in escrow along with all other programs, including faith based initiatives, something has to start somewhere, enough is enough.

Sam,

There is no need to call me an 'ass'. We're both proud homos who want equality. We're ultimately on the same side here. We just disagree on this boycott issue. You say boycott states, I say boycott specific businesses and support gay communities wherever they may be. Oh, and the point about other countries was that many people travel internationally on vacation without considering gay rights in those countries. Whether you travel to South America, Asia, Europe, wherever, it just makes sense to me that if you don't want to give your money to certain states in this country then hopefully you'll not travel to other lands that aren't supportive of equality either. A country doesn't have to be like Iran to be oppressive.

Take care.

I live and work here in Fort Lauderdale as a city employee. I'd like to get a few things straight about Mayor Naugle. First off he claims to be a Democrat but is a right wing Republican. He was an avid Bush supporter and worked on his campaign. He also went to McCain rallies here in Ft Lauderdale. The only reason he registers as a Democrat is that the population here is overwhelmingly Democrat; it's the only way he can win. (Sad to say, that's how stupid some voters down here are!)
Second, he did not decided not to run again. He is term limited out of running again. He's nuts if he thinks he could win again by a landslide. The majority of the residents of Ft Lauderdale do not feel as Naugle does. He was chastised by many political figures within the city and the country and the removed him from the tourism board. The sad commentary is that so few people vote in city elections here, that he was able to get re-elected time and again. We do not have a strong mayor form of government, he is no more powerful than a fellow commissioner; his power is that he has the bully pulpit and unfortunately he used it to spew his disgusting bigotry and hatred. The rumor is that he is interested in a radio show here with a right wing group and all of this was to make him a "celebrity" and a darling to the right wing base. Ft Lauderdale is a beautiful area and very, very gay friendly. I moved here 7 years ago and it was like going to heaven as a gay person! Don't knock it until you try it. Staying away only hurts the many, many gay owned and operated businesses that thrive here.

All the gay people that continue to support state gov. etc. that discriminate against us must truly be masochistic. When black people stopped riding buses that discriminated against them, those bus company's felt more than a small loss of revenue.

Get with it, haven't we all suffered enough, it's time to act, fight, get more angry, if you never fight you never win.

Sorry, but the stupid comment do you boycott countries as well, get a grip and get with the program, our civil rights as equal human beings are being trampled, you ass. I will personally pay for a trip for you to Jamaica, if you wear a t-shirt stating your gay and proud of it.

Money talks bullshit walks. Money is clout, and that's exactly what we need more of, clout.

Sorry Max. Many of us prefer our "so called" Red States. I moved from Ohio to Georgia. I could think of no other state to live other than maybe Florida.

As you avoid Florida, I avoid California. I only go there as I must for work. I make every opportunity to spend as little time there as possible. And now, there is Prop 8 that I can use as reason for boycotting.

I maintain that visibility is far more effective than boycotts. I refuse to surrender some of the most beautiful places within this country.

I still say boycott the states that are not gay friendly. It's not about supporting gay people in states that discriminate, it's about supporting states that don't discriminate.

If a state get billions of dollars in vacation revenue, and discriminates against the people who are spending it, why continue to bankroll them, duh!

Boycotts work, I remember Anita Bryant the spokeswoman for Florida orange juice, when she spoke out against gay people, calling us unchristian names, telling the news we recruited children, we shouldn't be allowed to teach in public schools, etc, we boycotted Florida orange juice, she was fired after a week, never bounced back, her husband divorced her, and was basically never heard from again.

I say bring our money to Massachusetts, or any other state that embraces us. There may not be many states as yet, but money talks, let Florida get all it's revenue from the religious right, the only thing they spend, is their time praying that all gay people go to hell.
