It seems to be true that this was a violation of the NCAA rules but because of the presumed "gay" factor, it reached proportions that another type of violation may not have generated. Most of the news reporting mistakenly identified the website as gay suggesting that it made the matter somehow more serious. Surely a semester suspension is more than enough punishment for what was a minor error in a young man's judgment. I feel sorry that the Huskers could not work out some appropriate action and I hope that Paul is able to finish his senior year and wish him all the best.

Someone commented that "This is not a gay issue, this is a policy issue." I disagree. If this guy had raped a girl or injured someone in a drunken car accident, he would have received a slap on the wrist with a wink. Anyone who's been around the sports world will confirm that. This is all because he appeared on a gay site. I also don't think this kid is doomed to a life in porn. Vanessa Williams did some nude pics. The press and "moral" society ripped her apart. But I'd say she not only had the last laugh but is still laughing as her career continues to grow. I just hope this kid gets an agent and PR rep. 90% of the actors in LA would kill to have his looks and his press coverage. Careers are made in this town off this stuff. And kudos to Edinboro University for stepping up and allowing a gifted young athlete to do what he obviously loves.

The story's newsworthiness comes from the way it demonstrates one possible outcome for NCAA athletes who decide to have their pictures taken for commercial use. It is also a good example of how potentially embarassing it could be to pose for a pornographic website while thinking that nobody will even see it or realize who is in the photos. These two guys are probably personally mortified and probably just want to move on with their college life and athletic careers. On the other hand, they both look great without clothes and should feel encouraged by the generally pleased crowd of voyeurs. Atleast they have learned that if all else fails, there is more money to be made with no clothes on. And the scandal can only help in a scenario where either boy embarks on a gay porn career. I wish them both luck in whatever they decide to do.

WOW! 14 comments and only 2 point out that this is about NCAA rules - NOT about being gay, NOT about being naked or about anything else. GEEZZ OH MAN!

But I would like to know from Censoredagain which of Aesop's fables I missed in grade school? Or maybe just what IS the moral of the story?

My response is that it isn't for me as an individual to decide for everyone else the merits of publishing this story or not - as you have yourself done. I can see some definite merits in it, the fact that you cannot make speak to some level of tunnel vision. That's fine. Every single story that is printed does not need to "make us a better society" - that isn't possible since who is to decide what makes us a "better society" - you? That's like sense there is one universal standard for art - when art is in fact subjective. WE all have different interests and different stories speak to those different interests. When you say something is "without a doubt" - you are in essence implying that everyone else should agree, that there "should be no doubt" from anyone. In that sense, you have cast yourself as "sole decider". Well, I DO disagree. Maybe another person who is gay and who is a wrestler has a definite interest in this story. They has as much a rite to read a story as this as you do to NOT read it. Unfortunately, the rest of your posting seems to reveal your motivations more clearly.

Chris.
Is the story shallow or not? What substance does it have for society? What news worthiness does it have? Does it educate the populace in any way? Does it make us a better society? The article without a doubt is a voyeuristic fluff piece. The only value that may come of the article is something which should have been learned in grade school by one of Aesop's fables. Yes I have an opinion which I stated and it is not because of Democracy that I can do so... it is because it is my constitutional right to do so which comes not from the state no matter what form the state governance takes. No I did not cast myself as the sole decider I did not try to gag any dissenting opinion nor did I castigate any or offered a dissenting opinion like another poster who posted.

Democracy is not from where our freedoms come; democracy is nothing more then Mob Rule which is why our thoughtful forefathers made our nation a Republic with two houses one to represent the mob and one to represent the states. Democracy in and of it self is neither good nor bad but ignorant voters make a stupid democracy. This you can not honestly deny. It is not the form of government for the most part, that make a government good or bad; but the people in the government. We the voters are that government and we have made a laughing stock of our government. Again this isn't anything one can honesty say is not true.

I am of the opinion if I were an Obama worshiper like so many others you would not have been so quick to judge my post. I maintain the opinion it is only because I question Obama's loyalty to individual freedom and the free market that you judge my post so harshly.

I want to know what gay guy inside the Nebraska athletic dept came across these photos and then exposed them. It's not like schools have teams of people scouring internet porn sites looking for their athletes.

"Censordagain" - thanks for casting yourself as the sole decider of what is a "shallow" story. You like to throw around Lenin this and Lenin that - but you know, in a Democracy - you had just as much of a rite to ignore the story if you didn't find it interesting. Instead, you chose to read it and then pontificate about its merits.

Wow! It is articles like this and the people that want more of them that explain the deterioration of America. With shallow Americans, come shallow American leaders. We as a people have to police ourselves because if we don't the nanny government we are handing more of our individual responsibilities and rights to will police us.

To quote KMFDM "America gets the Politicians it deserves" That explains why we have had a Bush administration for over the past 7 years; and possibly a Leninist Leader like Obama and Leninist Lite Leader like McInsane.

Americans have to understand that there can never be individual freedom without individual responsibilities. The more we look for the government to save us the less and less free we become. We have to understand that in capitalist society we vote with how we spend our money. Reading shallow articles like the one above increases readership (and with traditional publications increase sales revenues) with an increase in readership comes increased ad revenue. So in the end we are less informed more ignorant and left with Leninist and Leninist Lite candidates.
