Gay foes blast Hallmark same-sex wedding cards

(New York City) A conservative Christian group is urging its members to write to Hallmark Greeting Cards to complain about the company’s new same-sex wedding cards.

Hallmark unveiled the cards last week after California joined Massachusetts as the only U.S. states with legal gay marriage. A handful of other states have recognized same-sex civil unions.

The cards featured two tuxedos, overlapping hearts or intertwined flowers, with best wishes inside. “Two hearts. One promise,” one says.

The language inside the cards is neutral, with no mention of wedding or marriage, making them also suitable for a commitment ceremony. Hallmark said the move is a response to consumer demand, not any political pressure.

But the American Family Association is urging its thousands of members to “take action.”

“We’ve all given or received Hallmark Cards – remember their slogan – ‘when you care enough to send the very best.’ But promoting same-sex marriage for profit is not the very best for families or our nation,” the AFA said in a mass mailing to its members.

“Hallmark is a private company obviously driven by greed. Let them know you do not appreciate Hallmark promoting a lifestyle which is illegal in 48 states.”

AFA also reminds its members that American Greeting Cards, Hallmark’s competitor, does not offer same-sex marriage cards.

In July the AFA launched a boycott of McDonald’s over the company’s support for the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.

Previous AFA boycotts have involved Disney, Ford, Proctor and Gamble and Kraft Foods and a threatened boycott of Wal-Mart. Financial analysts have said the boycotts had little effect.

Hallmark has not said how many complaints it has received over the wedding cards.

McDonald’s remained firm in resisting AFA demands that it sever ties with the LGBT Chamber of Commerce.

The AFA previously boycotted Disney for several year’s over its support for Gay Days at Disney World, although the company was not an official sponsor of the event.

It boycotted Cincinnati-based Proctor and Gamble over the company’s support for the repeal of a city charter amendment that prevented Cincinnati city council from enacting any laws that would recognize gays and lesbians.

The group boycotted Kraft for its support of the Chicago Gay Games and threatened to boycott Wal-Mart over its involvement with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.

The AFA boycott of Ford was heralded as a success by the organization which noted that it had resulted in a drop in sales and share value.  But most financial analysts said that Ford’s problems were really the result of vehicle designs that failed to impress the public.

The conservative Christian group launched a nationwide boycott of Ford in 2005 over the automaker’s support for LGBT issues, briefly put it on hold and then reinstated it.

The AFA claimed victory when Ford began pulling its ads from LGBT publications, but industry observers and the company said the ad pullout was part of a downsizing of expenses.

    • The AFA has really been losing credibility with mainstream America. Even their statements are wrong:
“Hallmark is a private company obviously driven by greed. Let them know you do not appreciate Hallmark promoting a lifestyle which is illegal in 48 states.”

They may be sad to realize that the homosexual “lifestyle” is NOT illegal in any state in this country. Now if they are talking about legal marriage, then they are still wrong because they are discounting any states that allow civil unions.
They really don’t care about telling the truth because that doesn’t fan any fires. It will be a happy day when Dobson and Robertson and others leave this Earth!

    • The AFA has consistantly used boycotts as fund raising tools. None of their previous boycotts has resulted in any change of policy. No harm; no foul.

I’m sure engineers can figure out how to sell one unit that works for both the hetro and homo communities for Hallmark.

    • I really, really am hoping that homophobic groups find it necessary to boycott food, because food undeniably supports and facilitates gay metabolism.

    • And we all know that Disney, P&G, McDonalds and Kraft have simply vanished for their Eviyal Deeds…

I live in Ontario–my wife and I moved here when our state put discrimination into its Constitution. Our marriage is no different from opposite-sex couples.

The AFA should take the log out of its own eye before it examines the splinter in anyone else’s. Jesus never said one word against same-sex partnerships. He said “love one another.”

As for one man-one-woman — did any of these people read the Old Testament? How many wives did Solomon have? And what about Abraham and his concubine?

The United States was founded on separation of church and state because the founding fathers saw what a mess religious conflict made in England and Europe. No one has the right to force their own beliefs on another person’s soul.

    • I find this funny. This just proves that there are people in the world who just spend their time protesting something just because they like to protest. Silly people.

    • Would you please put quotes around the word “Christian” in the article, because this group is as far from Christian as one can get.

    • Make your own cards and F#@$ Hallmark and this “Christian” group. Same goes for Kraft, Ford and any other company that let’s themselves get pushed around for what they believe in. Who in f@#$’s name needs any of them for acknowledgment? The gay community has huge purchasing power just like these idiots heading up this group. Put out a world wide GAY BAN on all their damn products if they bend for these a$$holes. And just the same, put out a world wide Gay “Purchase Only” list for those companies that don’t back down. In this pitiful world money has the biggest voice (as we all surely know) and the only way to fight these ignorant, phobic, pseudo-Christian , holier-than-thou, bible thumping god humpers is with money.

I’m a straight man, but I have seen one too many times the way in which these cosmic-muffin worshiping morons bully anyone that does something they personally deem “unacceptable”. Well I personally find them unacceptable! If they wish to worship a hairy thunderer, that’s up to them, but no where can I find, in any law book or anywhere else, something that mandates I have to believe in or support the same thing.

Nothing pi$$es me off more than hatred and intolerance hidden behind a mask called “God”. If there were two braincells to rub together between the lot of them and 1% comprehension of what they were reading, they would know (as would any corporation listening to their rants) how wrong they are. I just hope I’m around the day the real God takes an intergalactic dump on their collective tiny heads.

Sorry for going off… But these tards make me a little angry.

Have a great day and make your own cards… They mean more anyway.
