The comparison to racial segregation is silly and just indicates that whoever came up with it didn’t spend much time thinking about it.

Well, according to the article, the person making the comparison, which you found to be objectionable, was the prison warden. Perhaps you are right in stating that she didn't spend much time thinking about it since she appears to have been trying to throw a "red herring" across the trail leading to discovery of her "homophobic" reasons for allowing the "illegal" actions of people under her supervision.

I don't think that comparing this to racial segregation is a good analogy.

If we believe that there is legitimate state interest in stifling relationship-forming in prisons, we have reason to segregate people likely to form relationships. This is why we have sex-segregation in prisons; men are not incarcerated in the same locations as women.

The next logical step would be to separate those who are fully homosexual from those who are fully heterosexual and those who are bi enough to engage in 'prison sexuality'.

I'm not saying that we *should* segregate prisons by sexuality, or that we *should* segregate prisons by gender... But you can't argue against sexuality segregation and not argue against gender segregation. They are two sides of the same coin.
