W Hotels

The stylish, chic W Hotels brand has always been a huge supporter of the gay community, with five properties in Manhattan as well as locations in cities across the U.S.

“W Hotels supports inclusion and thinks there should be no distinction between gay or straight. Everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, deserves to be celebrated and treated equally. We want to show the LGBT community that they are as important to our business model as every other traveler we cater to,” says Edward Maynard, general manager of the W New York Union Square. “Our talent is encouraged to treat all of our guests with respect and dignity.”

W Hotels celebrates LGBT pride year-round with its Pride 365 Package, which includes not only an ultra-contemporary room, but also a Puma Urban Mobility travel wallet, two complimentary cocktails, a one year GLAAD membership and a year’s subscription to OUT and OUT Traveler magazines. W is perfect for the business traveler in need of surroundings to impress clients, or for the faithful couple looking to commemorate their life-long commitment with W’s exclusive WOW VOW commitment ceremonies.

Wyndham Hotels

For business or leisure, Wyndham Hotels provides a comfortable, casual, and incredibly gay-friendly atmosphere. Wyndham has been actively supporting the gay community for years, through sponsorships of organizations including GLAAD, HRC and National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and hosting national LGBT events such as Gay Days and the International Gay & Lesbian World Travel Expo.

“We’ve had a very long history of understanding the LGBT community and supporting the LGBT community. It as makes good business sense and also it’s just the right thing to do. People want to be treated like people,” says Greg Land, senior vice president of global sales and distribution for Wyndham Hotel Group.

Wyndham is also the first major hotel chain to launch a dedicated, gay-targeted advertising campaign and offer specially designed commitment ceremonies at all of its U.S. locations.

Land says, “It’s part of our overall corporate responsibility to address diversity,” and that the initiative has spread out from sales and marketing into Wyndham’s human resource and purchasing and procurement departments.

Because of the legacy of Wyndham’s involvement in the gay community, the NGLCC recognized them last year as Corporation of the Year. Pick your destination at www.glbtWyndham.com.

He notes that the chain sponsors organizations like PFLAG, the Mautner Project, and GALA Choruses Festival 2008. “We are throwing fundraising events for LGBT and HIV organizations coast to coast.” Last year they helped raise more than $100,000 for these nonprofits.

Kimpton’s California hotels, along with those in Massachusetts and British Columbia, now offer same-sex wedding ceremonies, and all of Kimpton’s hotels across North America continue to offer same-sex commitment ceremonies.

    • Doesn’t the editor of your website read the stories posted here? I just read a story about San Diego Pride on your website, Quote:
The hotel was built and is owned by Manchester and operated by Hyatt which has actively marketed to the gay community.

“Hyatt is involved with someone who is giving a lot of money to a campaign to take away our rights,” Cleve Jones, a longtime gay-rights activist and organizer for Unite Here, a labor union representing hotel workers, told The Associated Press. “They need to decide what side they’re on.”
The hotel chain said that it took no position on Manchester’s involvement with the proposed amendment.
“It’s a personal decision of Mr. Manchester’s that doesn’t involve Hyatt,” Hyatt spokesperson Lori Alexander told the AP. “His name is on the door, but it’s not the views of Hyatt.”

    • Maybe HRC could add this sort of thing to their publications. They do have a list of employers and their score, e.g. in terms of equality for Gays and Lesbians in employment.

    • Regarding Earl’s comment: The Hyatt’s mentioned don’t seem to be the ones owned by Manchester – that’s the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Hyatt just sponsored the Philadelphia Gay/Lesbian Film Festival, and while I would have hoped they’d have issued a stronger statement about Manchester, fact is, they’re a gay-friendly company with a wealthy, bigoted franchisee. Not the same as corporate homophobia.

    • I totally agree with Dave… One bad apple shouldn’t ruin the name of a very gay friendly corporation.

    • This is all fine and dandy for upscale hotel visitors. What about the mid-priced like Fairfield or Hampton? Who should be avoided? Even Days’ Inn for those of us who travel on a budget? No need to go down to Budget Host or Motel 6. (I am gay, after all.)

    • I agree with Larry. Not all GLBT are rich and can stay in overpriced hotels. Can you compile a cheap to medium range place?

  • Richard - Las Vegas Said: August 17th, 2008 at 9:45 am
    • When deciding where to stay, it is also important to know where NOT to stay when coming to Las Vegas.
The Venetian and the Palazzo, are both owned by Sheldon Adleson. Mr. Adelson is part of the major money behind the Republican Party, and also is funding the repeal of the Gay Marriage Amendment in California (Prop 8). So please look elsewhere when booking your Vegas vacation.

    • Wyndham Hotel Group owns several “low budget” hotel chains like “Days Inn”, “Super 8″, and “Howard Johnson” -all operated with the same gay-friendly philosophy.
