It's nice to see someone outside of the community being so supportive. Palin/McPain is a bad ticket for us all.

Obama is against gay marriage but for civil unions, at least that's a step toward the goal we want to achieve.

This is my opinion so deal with or don't either way I've said my peace.

If Obama is so supportive of our right to marriage equality why does he have "Faith Tours" going on right now that are headlined by anti-gay marriage, pro Prop 8 bigots? If Obama is so supportive of gay equality then why doesn't he believe that gay relationships are not as good as heterosexual relationships, Obama would rather segregate gays into a "Separate But Equal" policy of civil unions that the Conn. Supreme court just ruled were DISCRIMINATORY TO GAYS!!!! How could anyone consider that support?

Earlier someone mentioned that Palin vetoed a bill that would deny rights to gay couples. Palin did veto this but has anyone read why? In her letter she says that it is because the supreme court had already ruled to extend rights to gay couples but ends it by saying "Please know that this veto does not signal any change or modification to my disagreement with the action and order by the Alaska Supreme
Court."
Here's where I found it.

Let's continue to fight amongst ourselves . . . especially when we have the same goal(s).

Different thought. There seems to be a common theme with Palin's leadership style, i.e., she fully exercises her right to fire people at will. It would be interesting to see a content analysis of Mayors and Governors use of their authority to fire people at will.

I have seen and heard Obama (on video) stand before conservative anti-gay Black churches and say that they must end their homophobia and treat gay and lesbians equally. Very few politicians are willing to go to the heart of their base and say you are wrong ont his issue, but Obama has done so. Do I like his associations with biggots? No way. Do I trust him to remain supportive of gay rights? Yes. Am I upset that he is not speaking out against Prop 8 or the Florida marriage amndment? No. It is a political reality that for him to make a statement on gay marriage beyond what he has done would be reckless. He has stated that he opposes such measures. He has done so whenever asked, but it is not a central point to his campaign, and in order to win, it must remain so.

Greenman, Ill say it again. Factcheck is recognized as being bipartisan. It is used as a source by reputable news organizations, even liberal ones like Newsweek, and USA Today. You seem to believe you know better than they do, but the facts are the facts. You just don't want to hear the truth.

Where in this article is the topic of Obama's association with Donnie McClurken or others mentioned? It isn't. Your scatter-shot approach to sliming Obama with accusations has nothing to do with the topic at hand. If you wish to discuss Obama and McClurken take it to a discussion where it is relevant to the subject at hand. This discussion is about Sarah Palin and her attempt to have books removed from the Wasilla, Alaska library, nothing else. This is about Sarah Palin, not Barack Obama.

That tired factcheck link you keep hauling out just says the same things I stated when I covered this topic fully point by point. No books were removed from the Wasilla, Alaska library shelves. Correct. The long list that was circulated via email is not connected to Sarah Palin. Correct. I said those exact same things. Technically, Sarah Palin did not ban books. She just attempted to do so and factcheck dot org gives evidence of that fact themselves.

How can I say that? Because the factcheck link contradicts itself. Here is the relevant passage:

"According to Emmons, Palin "was asking me how I would deal with her saying a book can't be in the library." Emmons reported that Palin pressed the issue, asking whether Emmons' position would change if residents were picketing the library. Wasilla resident Anne Kilkenny, who was at the meeting, corroborates Emmons' story, telling the Chicago Tribune that "Sarah said to Mary Ellen, 'What would your response be if I asked you to remove some books from the collection?'"

How, then, can factcheck go on to say that Sarah Palin made no inquiries about having book removed from the library collection on her say so? They just gave quotes from two primary sources saying she did. There are two witnesses to Palin asking what the librarian's response would be if Palin herself asked that books be removed. If it was a theoretical question why did Palin meet multiple times with the librarian regarding it? She was told what the librarian would do in the first meeting; she would call in the ACLU. Why revisit it unless Palin was hoping the librarian might respond to pressure and change her mind? Since the librarian was later able to name a title that came up during these discussions, "Pastor, I Am Gay," it went far beyond the theoretical and into the specific. It's nonsensical for factcheck to say on one hand that Palin made specific inquiries into what the librarian's response to be to a request from the Mayor herself that books be removed from the library and then on the other to say Palin has no interest in banning books. The only thing that can be said with any assurance is that no books were removed, not that Palin didn't attempt it. Palin later fired the librarian and the best factcheck can come up with is that the censorship question wasn't cited by Palin as the reason and therefore it cannot be proved that it was.

And who might these picketers Palin mentioned in her "theoretical" scenario be? Her own church, perhaps? Her church had picketed bookstores to have the book "Pastor, I Am Gay" made unavailable even for purchase in Wasilla, so it's not a stretch to think that's what Palin had in mind when she evoked the threat of the library being picketed.

The factcheck link also doesn't address the attempted banning of "Daddy's Roommate" when Sarah Palin was on the Wasilla City Council. There is a witness to those events, another City Council member, who states unequivocally that Palin supporting having the book banned even though she had not read it. So now we're up to three eyewitnesses who remember Sarah Palin having an interest in controlling what materials were available at the Wasilla library.

The factchecking done by "factcheck" is incomplete, contradictory, and thereby useless in the examination of Sarah Palin's interest on book banning.

I have an idea. Instead of Ms Palin’s church trying to ‘pray away the gay’ (SO supportive, dontcha think, Wayne?), maybe they could concentrate on praying away the stupid.

---------

And what advice do you have for Obama and his favorite anti-gay bigot Donnie McClurkin? McClurkin shills for Obama on his "Faith Tours" and preaches that gay men are all child molesters? Where is your sharp retort for that? Or about Obama's long time associations with Pastor Meeks in Chicago - whose church thinks it's a fun idea for a Halloween party to set up a display showing Homosexual men (who were painted in body glitter for the occasion) burning in hell. Obama gets a pass from you on that, huh?
