marcus99,

Canada is truly a great nation. It was the terminus for the Underground Railroad, allowing black slaves to escape to freedom. I read the story of a man who was a slave, escaped to Canada, then a year later was elected to a town council--amazing!!

My partner and I are going to Ontario (Toronto or Niagara Falls) to get married. Our reasons are two fold:

1.) We simply do not trust America--California and Maine are current justifications of our distrust.

2.) We want to marry in a place where the entire nation approves of the marriage--not just a town here or there.

There is a definite American arrogance regarding Canada. In fact, Canada is our largest trading partner--our economic prosperity is dependent upon you. Dependence on foreign oil? Canada is the top supplier of oil to the United States.

Oh Canada!! Please continue to be the TRUE land of the free and home of the brave!

I love her, I just love her. For all the passionate, wacky, angry, world heating up and no one cares, stupid election BS the turtle piece wins for me. Both in that she shows just how much the left doesn't sink to scare tactics, because no one trying to scare people grounds them and reminds them that the world goes on and is beautiful no matter what, and that she is So Out and is So Casual About It. The mention of her partner in the way that any of us should be able to mention our partner totally outside of any "sexual" context, or "queer agency" politicized way made me a little bit giddy. Yes, I'm a doob, get over it. The fact that this is on a major network news show to me is more exciting than any other progress we've made, or setbacks we've suffered. I love her so very very much.

Right on Kelly!

Organized civil disobedience is the call of the day.

From this Canadian perspective, it looks like you folks are # 1 victims of your emerging Amercian theocracy.

Picket, demonstrate, organize, withhold taxes, boycott, whatever....

The (right) is full of anger, the (left) full of hope. While hope can burn very bright, it's relaxes and calms and people quickly forget...Hate however burns, festers and stays bright. Until we start getting angry about what's going on with our country, lack of health care, lack of rights, lack of action by our elected officials...we are going to relax ourselves into the background once again and the right with all their anger will smash us out of the way. I think it's time we took of the gloves, stop being nice about it and start DEMANDING...not ASKING for our rights.
