Ask over 90% of the bible bangers in this country what Christ said were the two greatest commandments and they won't know. And ask those who do know why they bury themselves in all the other bullshit and they will begin cherry picking verses right and left to justify their sick bigotry and evilness. Every christian cult in this country justifies what they do by pointing to one or more verses in that poor excuse of a fantasy novel.

There is one benefit to being a christian/conservative - you don't have to tire the brain by thinking. You can let the pulpit and the right wing idiologues do it for you. Thinking makes one's hair hurt anyway.

When you follow the word of the god created by man in the image of man to be used to control man through fear the two greatest commandments are of no consequence.

One of the interesting things happening, per the news, is that younger evangelicals are moving off the cult's mentality. And they are becoming concerned about pollution and a whole set of other issues, of which I bet many of them will accept gay people as they are, rather then try to use spiritual terrorism and enforced conversion.

This is an opportunity. I'd give those guys copies of all my "college Fuck Fest movies", etc. And help them to not become fundamentalist religious and even sexual perverts, while bringing them over to normalcy, liberty, and a recognition that in some ways they have gone to a christian madrassah, the same type of monstrosities which helped bring about 9/11

And ultimately we need them playing what apparently is the hot game on campuses these days. Gay chicken. Where two guys go to lip kiss. The first one to chicken out loses. And ultimately at the drunken party, the winner should get a hot makeout session with a chick as a reward. Or even a guy, for these schools are filled with secretly gay people, just like Fallwells assistant was until he came out, Ted Haggard, etc.

The people are right he was brainwashed and he did not even realize it. We have a college in the suburbs of Chicago that seems to attract gay Christians. I was told that this is the place that Christians send their kids if they think they are gay. I have talked with a couple of the students and they know that and they finally have a chance to get away from their bible thumping parents for the first time so quite a few come into Chicago for the weekend. Its fun to watch them get tipsy and at times makes fools out of themselves.

Christians seem to be hell bent on the idea that you can change your sexual ID by going through various courses, how sad. The EX-GAYS are a perfect example of delusional people, they are sad and hurt many many people because of their beliefs. Those are the types we should be watching out for and making sure they are made out to be the fools that they are.

The guy shows it is so easy to become brainwashed it makes you think he was really an operative sent in by the Christians.

I too would like to read this book. I'd also be intrigued to read a book by a Liberty U. student penned after attending Brown for a semester.

@Kiek - I think the interest in this story could be phrased as "these fundies aren't murderous psychopaths; instead, they're mostly-normal human beings who happen to hold a few psychopathic BELIEFS". In turn, this is relevant to GLBTQ people as we craft our approach to our opponents in the ongoing battle for our rights.

I'm not necessarily saying Roose's conclusions are correct in substance - just pointing out the story's potential relevance to the readers of this site.

I'm not sure I understand why this "story" is published on this website. "Boy attends christian fundamentalist university to find that the radical conservatives aren't so bad - brought to you by 365gay.com".

I'm sure that even the most deranged psychopath wouldn't mind a nice refreshing diet peach snapple after eating his entire family. Proves nothing. Stupid.

Truth B. Told, these Christians love all kinds of oxymorons. The very name "Liberty University" for a school that is not a real university and that hates liberty is oxymoronic. I would be interested in learning what the author had to say about the "academics" at LU compared to those at Brown. In any case, he seems all too accommadating toward the crazies at this backwater school. Unfortunately, its graduates flooded the Bush administration and have been embedded all over the US government.

Uh, really? Well, if your so-called "christians" want to get along with gays, then they shouldn’t bring up hateful things about homosexuals.

...Try the shoe on the other foot, honey.

Also, if they were so "nice" let see how long someone would last at your "christian" Madrassa if they were "honest" and came out as a gay student.

Most Evangelical “christian” Mullahs would kick your ass so high and hard off campus you'd be wearing your buttocks as earrings.

Evangelical “christian” love...what an oxymoron!

An interesting undercover concept for a book. I think more than one semester would have been better. He could have uncovered a lot more of Liberty's hypocritical actions. I once sat on an airplane several years ago from Roanoke to Orlando next to a Liberty student. When he said he attended the university, I gave a callous remark of "I'm sorry". He laughed and said that he only went there because they gave him a full athletic scholorship in basketball. He then proceded to tell me how the little student campus "police" ran around and busted people for drinking and smoking or whatever. He said the athletes only had to show their ID's for the team and the little "Hitlers" would turn and walk away because they were told not to report any athletes. The university wanted competitive sports teams and couldn't have that if the athletes were suspended. He laughed and called them hypocrites because while the regular students were always reported, the athletes could get away with murder. While I'm sure this happens on most campuses, Jerry "Fatwell" should have practiced what he preached.

I attended a Christian Collage, located in the south. This Collage offered a program I was looking for - Business/Music major/minor. I'm a Roman Catholic, the Collage was founded on Baptist principles. I meet the nicest people under the sun - all in one place. All my friends were homo's and we enjoyed all the conveniences the hetero's enjoyed without prejudice. I met people from all over the world, as one usually will in a campus setting. People like Jerry Falwell are leaders, the followers are not necessarily cut from the same cloth. One may find it very surprising how "hip" most Christians really are. If you won't to get along with a Christian: don't bring up religion.
