Heather Matarazzo Engaged

, AfterEllen.com

25-year-old actress Heather Matarazzo is officially engaged to musician Carolyn Murphy (pictured above, Matarazzo’s publicist announced today.

Lisa Jammal told E! News that Matarazzo “is engaged to Carolyn Murphy. They’ve been together for over a year.”

It was “love at first sight,” according to Jammal. They both proposed to each other, “It was really cute. First Heather proposed to Carolyn, then Carolyn proposed to her.”

The two are very supportive of each other and totally in love, Jammal added.

No date for the wedding has been announced.

Matarazzo got her start as a tormented teen in the hit indie film Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995) and went on to star in mainstream movies like The Princess Diaries (2001) and indie films like Saved! (2004) and Believe in Me (2006). She currently co-stars in Logo’s lesbian comedy Exes & Ohs, and was also recently seen in The L Word and the popular horror movie Hostel II (2007).

Matarazzo came out publicly as a lesbian in 2004, when she was 21.

In a 2006 interview with AfterEllen.com, Matarazzo recalled her first kiss with a girl as a teenager. “We were sitting in my pink room with pink carpeting,” she described. “It was summer and we were sitting Indian-style across from each other and I was so incredibly nervous. And I thought, ‘Yeah, I am definitely gay.’”

In May, the California Supreme Court overturned the ban on same-sex marriage, prompting a flood of gay and lesbian couples to register to marry or announce their engagement — including celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, and George Takei and Brad Altman.

Massachusetts is currently the only other state to allow same-sex marriage. On Thursday, the Bay State’s governor officially signed legislation allowing out-of-state gay couples as well as residents to marry in Massachusetts.

    • I fell in love with Heather in Welcome to the Dollhouse, one of my favorite flicks! I am glad she is happy, has a partner, and choose to come out so publicly at a young age. We need more lesbian and gay celebrities with her courage. Congratulations, Heather and Carolyn.

    • Congratulations, Heather & Carolyn! I don’t believe in the term “gay marriage”, I simply believe that marriage is marriage in the same way that there isn’t “inter-racial marriage”. To allow adults to celebrate their love and commitment publicly is an experience that every person should be allowed. By being some of the first homosexual people to have the courage to do it, Heather & Carolyn are helping that dream come about.

    • hello world, we seem to be in a mess. we are turning the design of nature upside down, for it was not so from the beginning.as much we have every right to make our choices,we must also know that we cannot decide the consequences.we talk of absolute freedom, but in reality it does not exist anywhere, every man is being influenced by some force, power or passion that he cannot resist. if the dasign of nature has thus been altered, it is wisdom therefore to seek the designer for help and that is God; who has revealed His plan of restoration to humanity via His Son Jesus Christ who lived on this same earth some 2000years ago. all he came to do was to redesign the design, for more details contact the HOLY BIBLE.In conclusion, gay, lesbianism, homosexuality and such like is an alteration in the original design of the designer, we must therefore seek the designer to avoid the impending doom awaiting us if we continue this way.The fact that we like to do it does not make it right. THANKS.

Gee Paul, are you on a crusade or just like to hang out in gay websites? Come here often? Is that your foot tapping under the bathroom stall partition?
