I applaud his decision to this. Kudos to Zakarakis for his action. Also, let's keep the gay bar masculine. Why do they need to come to our establishment. I see it is a afront in a way, sort of dissing us as guys. Let them go to a straight bar or Vegas.

"Let’s all applaud Mr. Zaharakis for putting principle over profit!"

Kudos from me also, Mr. Zaharakis.

As for those of you bawling about bigotry and anti-hetero sentiment:

You have no idea what a group of people are until you're outside of it and theres no room left on the lifeboat. Feeding and petting a docile bull guarantees you no protection from him when the herd stampedes.

A class of people so egoist that they can barely agree- at best- that civil rights for queers is "novel and progressive" earns them no compassion from me whatsoever. Try celebrating a gay relationship in an exclusively hetero bar and then tell me that Zaharakis is a bigot.

If it was up to me, heteros wouldnt get a vote on my rights and dignity, nor a discussion and a politician to consider the "idea".

They would have to choose between getting the f*ck out of my way or bullets. Its fortunate for them that I represent a vocal minority. Very fortunate.

I've always felt the same way. I hate that stright girls, and sometimes their boyfriends, have taken over gay bars. Did they ever think that the reason we go there is to meet other gay people? Go to a women's only club or something, but leave our only safe-spaces alone!

Some of the anti-straight hypocrisy here is unbelievable. "Disgusting breeders?" Evil straight guys just waiting to knife you if you look at them wrong? Even in the article, the bigot says he didn't want the batchelorettes "shoving it in our faces" by merely existing. Hmm...sounds a lot like what straight bigots say. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Bigotry is wrong, period. Yes, even when we're doing it.

This is really stupid. First of all, homophobic women don't go to gay bars. If the women are there, they're likely on our side, so barring them from entry does nothing but spread bitterness. Don't get me wrong, I'm as frustrated with anti-gay legislation as the next homo, but being rude to our friends is not the answer. Yeah the women should be booted if they're obnoxious and causing a disturbance, but that should be treated on a case-by-case basis.

An outright ban probably violates the city's and state's anti-discrimination laws. There's got to be a compromise that can work within the letter of the law.

If there's an anti-discrimination law in place, then you can't outright ban someone from a public accommodation (bars fall into that category) based on gender. We're trying to get our community added to that list on a federal level (you can't bar someone from a public accommodation like a bar because the person is gay, straight, or bi..."sexual orientation").

Good for Cocktail. For too long the gay rights movement has been "pleading" for acceptance.

It is an AFFRONT that equality does not exist, and if we were not such a timid group, we'd be out there DEMANDING it.

I looked up the name of the bar on the yellow pages web site and couldn't find a listing for it. I'm in Alabama, but would love to call the bar and pay for a round of drinks for the next couple entering it. Nothing shows support like spending some money there. Does anybody have their phone number?

These women supposedly come into gay bars to enjoy a campy show and avoid having to deal with straight men. Why is it okay for straight people to invade our spaces to avoid other straight people? If straight men are the problem, then deal with that problem (don't marry one for gods sake). As for enjoying the shows....who wouldn't? It doesn't mean they're our supporters. If they were loading us onto the trains, how many drag-show-enjoying bachelorettes would step forward to help us? Good for Zaharakis, we're not just the entertainment, we actually would like to partake of the rights these straight women take for granted. And as for the term "breeders" to refer to straight people - I get the hostility toward many straight people, I feel it too, but "breeder" disturbs me because my partner and I are working on having a child....now when I hear the term used with hostility, I feel attacked - and I'm as queer as queer gets.
