The M&M thing was just dumb. I didn’t even think it was funny.

I’m still looking forward to Bruno. I loved Borat. It’s over the top nature reminded me of my favorite comedy ever The Jerk. Random, in your face, and outrageous to a fault. I like it when comedy makes me uncomfortable sometimes.

Michael W, STFU!!!!! Gay and heterosexual people do NOT have the same life experience, do NOT have the same history. Do you understand that? Gay people have been oppressed for millenia by HETEROSEXUALS across the globe. Yes, it is offensive to me that a heterosexual is playing a gay person. On top of that the audience will be laughing at his portrayal of gay men.

You can’t name a major actor who is openly gay is making big bucks. Openly gay actors are excluded from the money making roles, the big roles.

What bothers me more than straight actors playing gay characters, is that gay actors can’t play straight characters. If you want the butch leading man roles, you have to stay in the closet, even in supposedly liberal Hollywood.

Really people? You bitch and moan when people focus on our sexuality and then bitch and moan when they don’t (referring to those complaining about straight actors playing gay). There are credible gay actors that are doing just fine and playing “straight” roles….NPH for one who plays a hilarious roles as a straight womanizer. You can’t have it both ways!!! The job requirements shouldn’t be whether you are gay or straight but whether you can actually ACT and are the best man for the role. I think that any actor would agree that is what they want to be judged on – their talent, not their sexuality. And in terms of SBC and the movie – I can’t wait…I was reluctant with the 1st on but it won me over and I thought it was hilarious. The movie is a mockumentary so take it for what it is and lighten up a bit….sometimes we are our own worst enemies and just need to relax and learn to laugh at ourselves a bit.

To Jay. Like you I too am bothered by this trend. Some straight actor “generously” decides to play an LGBT character on film or television. He or she only does this aonc or twice in their entire career and suddenlly they are brave advocates for the LGBT communities at least until they go on TV and whine about how hard is was for them to have to kiss or hold hands with someone of the same sex because they are XO STRAIGHT. Does no one else have withe fact that when one of your precious actors puts on gay face a real LGBT actor(who might need the work) goes jobless.

How many of the have become famous for the one or two “brave” LGBT roles that they did only to colmpletly ignore the LGBT communities for the est of their careers.

Oh, come on, Jay. I am a gay man and quite frankly I don’t care if an actor playing a gay role is gay or not. Those who go into acting are people who choose to spend their career being someone other than who they really are and the sign of a good actor is if they can get beyond themselves and successfully suspend our disbefief that they are who they are seeking to portray (Sir Laurence Olivier could make you believe he was Hamlet or Henry V, whereas Tom Cruise is always playing Tom Cruise). Also, the day has not yet arrived when mainstream movie goers can find an openly gay man credible as a romantic lead in a straight movie. Just be patient! For now, just cut straight actors some slack while they are broadening their acting range.

While I like SBC and find him talented, and while I know he is exposing homophobia with this movie, I find it irksome that a straight man is going to make millions of dollars and advance his career playing an over the top gay-man. Would a gay man be able to get the same opportunity? Or is it palatable to straight audiences because they know he’s not really gay?

About the whole eminem thing.Did anyone else notice how Mr Mathers just walked in an angry but somewhat dignified manner while poor Brno was left hanging to be pushed arround like a pinata by the two large and angry looking African gentlemen who accompanied him and one or two members of the audience. Someone was being laughed at out there but wasn’t eminem. That joke cut two ways and I’m sorry but the crap artist(eminem) got the dullest edge. It’s OK that you think its funny and all but should also realize what(WHO) everyone else was laughing at.
