Me and my husband got married in Massachusetts after Paterson took the lead on announcing NY State would honor these marriages. I remain grateful, and will not forget he stepped to the plate! Same goes to the Governor of Massachusetts (another African-American) who signed the legislation to allow out of state gay couples to marry.

I’m kinda left to wonder if Patterson isn’t already aware that he won’t be elected to his own term, and maybe he doesn’t really care that much. He knows he can make a mark like Spitzer never did by signing this bill and putting New York among the “good” states. It doesn’t cost anything, and it does make a strong addition to the growing gay-friendly portion of the Eastern US. It’s a balls-out gesture that he’s prepared to do a right thing and not be especially worried about any blowback. That rocks!
