Vanasco: White House spokesman says Obama stands by DOMA brief
From ABC News:
TAPPER: Does the president stand by the legal brief that the Justice Department filed last week that argued in favor the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act?
GIBBS: Well, as you know, that the Justice Department is charged with upholding the law of the land, even though the president believes that that law should be repealed.
TAPPER: I understand that, but a lot of legal experts say that the brief didn’t have to be as comprehensive and make all the arguments that it made, such as comparing same-sex unions to incestuous ones, in one controversial paragraph…
GIBBS: Well…
TAPPER: …that’s upset a lot of the president’s supporters. Does the president stand by the content, the arguments made in that brief?
GIBBS: Well, again, it’s the president’s Justice Department. And, again, we have the role of upholding the law of the land while the president has stated and will work with Congress to change that law.

In a word, yes he supports the brief. He and the rest of our Democrat enemies believe they can ignore us after we payed through the nose to put them in office and put in thousands of man hours to put them in office and voted for them by more than a 7:3 margin.
Lets all give our money to the Republicans next time, put the man hours in for them the next time and vote for them at a 100% margin.
They are our enemies too of course, but we can use them to show our other enemies that we mean business and it will take more than platitudes, promises and crumbs from the equality table to get us back.
Do it…Just One Time.
Reading this, I hear in the background the song sung by Charles Durning in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas:
Ooh I love to dance a little sidestep, now they see me now they don’t-
I’ve come and gone and, ooh I love to sweep around the wide step,
cut a little swathe and lead the people on.
@Matt–see Gibbs’ final comment. “It’s the President’s Justice Department.” Unless you see a full, unvarnished retraction of that, then it’s as good as Obama’s own words. And even if you see a retraction–or a redaction–look carefully and see how it will be words that do not challenge what Gibbs said in this exchange.
Keep it up, Obama. Every one of these episodes is just digging you in deeper, sir. Those appeasement gestures had better start moving fast, and had better have some meat on them.
I’m becoming more and more convinced that the money people in the Democratic Party are close to full panic. They see that some of their best donors are getting very angry. Even str8 donors are repulsed (proportionately not as many, but still).
Obama’s busily digging himself into a quagmire where he has no choice but to advocate for gays. The more he doesn’t do it, the worse he looks. The more he tries to get small shit passed so we’ll be distracted, the more his true motives show. This is turning into a good show.
When do we get to the part where the White House spokesman says Obama stands by the brief?
Obamafail
What a load of crock. President Obama needs to comment about this himself not some yo-yo third party. I hope Obama reads my letter I mailed to him.
Why does nobody seem willing to ask WHEN the president intends to make a serious push to change the law? Because the answers they give now when it comes to both DADT and DOMA is that the president “believes the law should be repealed” but they never seem inclined to say when or what he’s doing to actually make it happen.
For obvious reasons, this makes it seem like the president actually SUPPORTS DADT and DOMA, since he opposes all judicial challenges to them. And it is in fact a LIE to claim that the DoJ HAS to file a brief in support of the law.
Furthermore, it’s certainly not necessary for the DoJ to use such bigoted language in their brief if they do feel “obligated” to uphold it. The way they’ve been approaching court challenges to DADT and DOMA is almost enthusiastic, as if Obama WANTS them to stand!
