It is deeply disappointing (but not a surprise) that the Vermont Senate would take this action. Hopefully, the state House will insert a provision requiring a vote of the people on this issue.

At least this is happening in public and with public debate - not behind unelected judicial robes!

What's the betting the rethuglican governor vetoes it just as girly man did first time around in California. I hope he signs it but my gut feeling tells me otherwise. His job is more important than our rights.

This vote is a victory. Marriage passing the Vermont legislature on this try is almost not as important as the fact that the full Senate voted yes by an almost 7 to 1 margin. Look at these legislators. Can you tell just by looking that most wil vote yes? Probably not, and as it should be. It's a beautiful moment. Twenty-six who had sufficiently little negative reaction from constituents that they seem to see no risk come the next election. Or maybe some of those 26 have gotten that negative feedback, and they're displaying their stubborn refusal to let the state interfere in the lives of the people. Whatever the case, it's a helluva fine thing. I hope the House follows suit.

Lets hope NH follows in the footsteps of its neighbors. Might be difficult since the gay marriage bill is going to the senate without a committee recommendation but hopefully they'll do what is right... like Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

Looks like New England is becoming the new Gay Mecca.

Don't count your chickens yet. The governor is probably going to veto it. Then we have to hope the legislature and senate can override it.
