WNYC has live audio and video of today’s hearings with Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor - there might be questions about gay marriage this afternoon, so you may want to tune in. The hearings will be on break from 12:45 pm to 2:00 p.m.
She’s likely to get confirmed; hopefully we’ll get a heads up about her thinking on gay civil rights issues.
Not sure how far the “empathy” of the “wise Latina” extends… just because someone is an ethnic minority doesn’t mean they support GLBT rites. Hopefully, she will prove a good ally.
Well she is “Catholic” and “Latina” so there is a start! What have the Catholics and the latinos done for LGBT in Cali. and/or other states…

Has this women confirmed anything about GLBT community at all ??
Just like because someone is in the LGBTQ community, doesn’t mean that they support ethnic rights or people in general.
The GLBT community is pretty much the last community to actually need Federal protections that are afforded to everyone else based upon their race, religion etc.

Jim – sadly, that’s true. So far, she hasn’t been questioned on GLBT issues and I can’t help but wonder if that’s because the GOP people don’t consider that such an important issue this time around or they suspect she is actually “empathetic” to their views on this issue. God help Obama if she turns out to be anti-gay.
