Is anyone surprised? The president is only in his first term. Once he gets re-elected in 2012, then he can do things that are going to upset the crazy religious kooks that think being gay is antiamerican and antigod and antifamily and child molesting and diseased. But still, he can't just go drive everyone over to the Republicans by doing something stupid, he still will need to preserve the -Democrat- name. So hold your breath and see what shade of blue you become before we get an unequivocal nod by the head honcho. But I must admit, at least he hasnt said anything like -we should codify that- like Bush said that touched off the antigay sentiment conversion to profamily hysteria in 04. So Yay Obama. And might I take a moment to say that Gods -best- is what life is. Not just straight people, thank you very much mr texas preacher man osteen. How much money are getting paid as gods peavey?

If he's sacrificing my rights to be re-elected, it's not much of an improvement from Bush. But more to the point, I haven't seen much out of him that suggests he will fight for our rights. He's stated his position and seems to have taken a passive role.

He's posturing himself as a moderate and this strategy may prevent him from being re-elected. Not because I think a Republican would be better, but because Obama had support from Moderates and Republicans in his first victory. Other than his stimulas package, what has he changed? Surely, we cannot consider signing the UN resolution as change. It was long over-due, the same with the closing of Guantanamo and questioning our torture policy. All good, but predictable, and with world approval.

He is a politician, knowing he want's to run for a second term. He is protecting himself from the Republican ad's that would no doubt run in his next election. I don't like it, but I understand it.
Gay in Seattle and from Chicago

I used to support civil unions but have recently come to the point of view that civil unions are not equal and only marriage is fair. I definitely do not share Obama's view. I would direct him to Coretta Scott King and her support for gays which was not popular but she stood her ground.

MikeFromCanada keep your Uncle Tom opinions on your side of the border.

What do you think would happen to Obama’s career if he came out in favour of gay marriage? What good is his endorsement if he’s in the political toilet? You negative little morons make me want to scream. You’re an embarrassment to the clear thinking gays of America."

----------------------------------

Easy for you to say, you twat, when you live in country where others (unlike cowards like you) fought and achieve equal rights for lazy a-holes like yourself. Now, buzz off douchbag!

Pretty much what I would have expected form him. He has said all along he is not a proponent of same sex marriage. He is, after all, a politician. I don't like him but I voted for him to counteract any possibility of McCain/8 more years of the incompetent arrogance that put this country in the mess that it is in.
Change we can believe in?

I am just laughing my [butt] off.

I don't know which is worse...the people who voted for this POS POTUS, and are now turning on him, or those who are still carrying his banner while on bended, kowtowing knees.

For the former. There are more than two parties in this country. You could have chosen to vote for another party, yet you did not. You voted for the Dem, thinking "lesser of two evils." So, OWN YOUR [CRAPPY] PRESIDENT!!!!

For the latter. You must be out of your minds if you think this [crappy] President is going to get another four years in office. (Oh wait. You proved that by voting for him in the first place.) He hasn't just pissed off his gay supporters, he's pissed off his anti-war supporters, too.

I'm REALLY laughing at those people I've seen in this thread who have said things like, "I am convinced that Obama has no opposition in his gut to same-sex marriage". REALLY!?! I must have missed that press release, because the one I read said that he believes marriage is between a man and a woman. Projection much?

Finally, get off of the Kool-aid. I hear it shrinks the testicles and ovaries, along with the brain!

Saying "I respect your decision" is the equivalent of saying..."screw this argument, I'm tired of it and have better things to do."

He defiantly could have come up with something way more respectful or just plain better than that. I mean, the man has a team of writers who write everything FOR him, and this is what they come up with? Really now...?
