AfterElton has a video clip of Obama proclaiming that, gay and straight, we’re all in this together.

I’m a bit conflicted about this.

On the one hand, it’s a great, important message. There are Democratic patriots and Republican ones; farmer-patriots and lawyer-patriots and construction worker-patriots; gay patriots and straight patriots.

All very true.

And of course I’m always happy, when there’s a laundry list, to not be left out.

But – it also makes me sad that we are so desperate to have our Democratic nominee mention us that ANY time he says “gay,” we get excited.
