The DADT issue is a good thing. it protectssoldiers like me that are gay. Do to the hate that we face everyday the military if found out i would actualy fear for my life (remember what happened in 1999 with Barry Winchell). some of the people in my company know that i am but the rest might not be so tollerant even if they changed the the DADT i would be brought up on charges (UCMJ)were its illegal to have sex other than missionary style (face to face)

So, if a soldier puts up a picture of his wife/girlfriend he gets a pass. If a gay soldier decides to put up a picture of his husband/boyfriend then he gets booted out under DADT.

Seems like a double standard to me. What's good for the straight is not allowed for the gay.

Jenn, there were some on this board that were star struck by Savior Obama.

In fact, there are still people that are proponents though he is distancing himself from gay/lesbian issues.

obama needs to grow a pair, and do the right thing. I never understood why gays were so supportive of him to begin with - because he mentioned us in a speech? Now he's backpedaling.

I read a lot of different lesbian websites that were all "ga-ga" over him, not this one or Grrlplanet, but most. Some seemed to have had some sense early on to be watchful.

I hope he comes through, but I also hope the gay media gives him some pressure to follow through on what he has said...and not just be a bunch of hot air - saying things to get elected like everyone else.

I have grown up in a dont ask dont tell enviroment for my life and i choose to continue this in mine. That does not mean no love. A lot of people think dont ask dont tell is anti-gay, but it is not. It is a way for everyone to be the same. DADT means the person to my left on the battlefield is the same as me. DADT means to me that I will take a bullet for you, no matter who you are. In bootcamp i saw people who have never seen a black person before. After bootcamp colors did not exist. Color is not something that can be worn on the inside, your sexual orientation can be. I am not saying deny who you are. The ideaology is everyone is the same. DADT, because whoever is right next to you, will die for you.

Personally as I reread this comment section, it just makes me think this article is all the more accurate.

http://mediamatters.org/columns/200811190014

Basically, expect the media to start trashing Obama before he even gets in office because he's not a Republican. (And FOX will continue to say the media is liberal)

Alright Wayne, hypothetically lets say you're right. Obama is simply awful on our rights, he promotes segregation, yada yada yada; whatever.

What is your solution? From what I can see, you and your cohorts lobby for an all-or-nothing approach. Saying (basically) that Obama should right this instance sign an executive order to repeal DADT, a legal impossibility since the ban is written in such a way that it requires congressional approval for such a measure.

OR

You go about sniping the positions of the DNC saying we don't need them. Then who are we to turn to? The Greens or some other 3rd party? they're a non-entity in the US. The GOP? You seem to imply that we have allies there, but if that's true then why did NO pro-gay legislation come from the Republicans during the 12 years the held Congress? or these last 8 years while they've controlled the white house? The (obvious) answer is because they are the one's attacking us. Political culture for the last 30 years has been dominated by conservatives. In that time we've had:

Reagan whose only recommendable achievement is that he gave the nation a nice pep talk after challenger. (And on a personal note I smile thinking that the SOB died little more than a poo flinging monkey, but I digress)

Bush Sr. who was no friend of our.

Clinton who while a Democrat was no liberal (despite what the right is currently trying to spin), but at least TRIED to push, even if it failed.

And W. who has actually gone on the attack despite the fact that the only time he really had more than 50% support on ANYTHING was right after 9/11.

So now we have Obama. Do you think that those conservatives who have been in charge of our country for the last GENERATION suddenly disappeared? they will continue to fight us ESPECIALLY now that it appears that attacking us is the only thing they can find support on!

As I said in a previous comment (on page 2) REALISTICALLY we're about 20 years away from full marriage equality. Should we HAVE to wait? No, but on the same note black people should have had to wait 80+ years to be free either. I wasn't right that Jews had to put up with nearly 2000 years of persecution either. I wish that your approach would work, but we are dealing with political inertia. Full equality will not happen overnight, so let's get to work.

Careers ruined by DADT? Why do you think that Obama would be concerned about that? Obama obtained a little over 70% of the gay and lesbian vote. He has them in his pocket. He's expressed that they're second class citizens. The people he has to keep happy is the vast majority in the black community that has decided that we are second class citizens as well.

Blacksteel said: “Wayne” said: “I don’t know why I want to keep spelling your name Whithers, instead of Withers.”

I wonder why “Mark” made the same mistake. Curious coincidence. Of course, it couldn’t be that “Wayne” posts under different names.
-----

Blacksteel, you really are an idiot! Do you think that as much as I critique the writers/editors at 365Gay about their reporting, that they would allow me to post under multiple names and not call me out on it? They know my email address, I've corresponded with them. You really are that paranoid aren't you? You're just a conspiracy theory waiting to happen. Roughly 1 out of every 3 gay people who voted, supported McCain over Obama. I am definately not the only one. Stop sniffing the glue. You make yourself look like a fool. You don't need my help.
