"President Obama also continues to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and believes that our anti-discrimination employment laws should be expanded to include sexual orientation and gender identity. He supports full civil unions and federal rights for LGBT couples and opposes a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. He supports repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security, and also believes that we must ensure adoption rights for all couples and individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation."

There is no mention on the DOMA repeal. We need to put more pressure on this government. Otherwise our issues will sit in the back of the bus or simply be asked to stand when another social topic is prioritized by the White House.

The LGBT community is the new black in America. Society does not use the "n" word but we are, after all, "f's" and "d's" untill all of our equal rights demands are met. We are not second class citizens. I hope all LGBT newspapers and allies add more force to this cause as soon as possible.

@ Brandon , "I like how everyone seems to forget that the President doesn’t make laws…"

While that is theoretically correct it isn't an accurate assessment of our government. For instance, Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation and later
promoted the 13th amendment.

Another example is Kennedy. He was very instrumental in getting the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He implored the legislature with a speech- http://www.jfklibrary.org/Historical+Resources/Archives/Reference+Desk/Speeches/JFK/003POF03CivilRights06111963.htm - and followed through by submitting a bill to congress.

Obama certainly had no problem pushing his Stimulus package through. And he promised to present legislation to repeal DADT.

Bud responds:

It was a general observation about how “racism” could be inferred, James. “Mixed race or Bi-racial” probably would sound less technical than “semi-Black“, and less mathematical than “half Black and half White“. But they all are still legitimate and accurate in description.

"James wrote:

Last time I checked I didn’t call you a racist. I did wonder about the term, a term that even you—one free from the shackles of PC–must admit is never used to describe whites. Before we continue, let me say I’ve taken blacks to task for using sloppy language in describing Obama (the silliest one is, “He’s not black like me”). In the future, I’ll be clearer.

Hope you enjoyed your week-end.

Bud adds:

Yep, I had a great weekend. Hope you did too. I sipped iced tea and lounged in the shade as my hubby painted the front porch. Hope you had a great one, too!

By the way, next time I'll might try using the term “quasi-Black“.

[ qua·si - Function: adjective …
(1) having some resemblance usually by possession of certain attributes ]

It may sounds less offensive than “half Black” to some.

By the way, my partner scolded me while saying that I should have referred to Obama as the first “half White” President. That would have been correct also.

I replied to him (Caution: READ WITH INTENED SARCASM AND IRONY IMPLIED): “Perhaps when Obama starts to do the ‘right thing’ by us non-heterosexuals then ‘we of the pigmentally challenged’ can all begin to referred to him proudly as the first “half White” President.”

Seriously, I just want to have the opportunity to refer to Obama as the first totally inclusive, "non-equivocating", truly pro-civil rights President. That’s all.

But, let's just say, he hasn't shown much promise, nor much to brag about, in that area -- yet.

We’ll see.

….Have a Great Day! :)

[Screw] Obama. He didn't even leave a twenty on the nightstand for us. And our gay "leaders" are too consumed by white guilt to really call his [butt] on this bull*(&! Gavin Newsom all the way, baby! Have a great day.

They hang their heads in sadness whenever the wall Of the Fallen Soldiers is shown, the real sadness is the number died serving their country in silence. Those of us that are not military need to be a voice for those serving. They are protecting us and we need to work diligently for them. The Obama administration need to know that we intend to hold him to his word.

Shane: Do not downplay others situations just because you personally dont have a vested interest in the issue at hand.

EXACTLY. While our rights have been violated, at least we're not stuck in Guantanamo Bay. While marriage is vital to all of us, so is the economy.
