Don't think Palin as completely anti-gay. She is one of the few governors who actually used veto power to help us. She vetoed a bill that sought to block the state from giving public employee benefits such as health insurance to same-sex couples. What legislation has obama supported for our cause? He may talk a good game but he's also against gay marriage and hasn't introduced any legislation on our behalf.

I don't get the impression that John McCain is a hateful person. I think he's pandering to the extremes in the Republican party. I think any credibility he had as an independent thinker in that party has been shot to you know where. I think him picking the increasingly more frightening Palin as VP shows he wants to get elected by winning favor with the extreme elements in the Republican party.

Yeah, a person can "like" Senator McCain but they shouldn't trust him with the direction of our nation in the least.

Hate the sin... Love the sinner

Thank you Bud,
It was a nice surprise this a.m. to see your note to us. Always nice to get good news. I see from your bio you're quite the artiste. I am not very good with art but I have always liked doing crafts and such. My main pasttime has been trying to write a vampire novel. In mine the undead triumphs over good. Yeah! I should make MCCAIN a victim of Stephan and have him feed on BUH AND CHENEY and then have to get a blood transfusion because their blood is no good either. ha ha. Ilived in Wichita for a whole month in July 1969. Iwas 15 and Iremember that a new mall was being built across from our house on the east side. I think it was to be called Roosevelt Mall. We also went through a twister, right out of OZ. Scared the crap outa me.
Our congrats to you two guys also. You don't get older, you just get better. Right? Talk later if you want. Saw your address. Peace

Hello "Doug loves you". So you've been with your main squeeze for 32 years. That's great! We wish you and Phil many long and happy years together.

Bill and I have been together for over 33 years. It's odd having two anniversaries though -- January 10th, 2009 will mark 34 years shacking up plus 4 years married. Speaking of which, we shall be celebrating the fourth year of our being legally wed this Sept. 13, 2008 (photos of our wedding in Vancouver are on my blog site -- just click on my name at the top of this response) Sorry, I looked like a blond chipmunk in the photo. The lighting was bad. At least that‘s what I tell people.

We live in the Midwest, about sixty miles east of the Topeka Westboro Baptist Church and Hellmouth. I was just informed about who going to be in attendance at Fred Phelp’s next anti-gay rally.

Of course, there will be Fred “Topeka Tea Room Queen” Phelps, along with his inbred clan each holding placards scrawled in crayon; predictably declaring, with biblical authority:

“God HATES Fags!”

(so watch out, you little elves, the next time you come home after cruising the park, that burning in your bush may not be a STD, but rather God talking to you -- his rod and his staff shall not comfort you)

Then there is, at the rally, the honorable Barrack “Don’t Care For Them Either” Obama who will no doubt do some eloquent speechifying. I see him religiously waving his banner, with poisonous political practicality, it might simply read:

“God really, really LOVES Heteros best! -- Especially in an Election Year!”

(…eeeewwww!!! I don’t actually hate the little buggers, I just think that they need to be managed. Like a roach problem)

…whereas, McCain’s giant green poster at the rally might repeatedly proclaim:

! ! ! P.O.W…P.O.W…P.O.W …P.O.W…P.O.W…P.O.W …P.O.W ! ! !

“God I Hope that Gun tot’n, Teen Bun in the Oven, Separatist Loon, Book Burning, Moose-stew Eatin’, Hag Helps Me Win This Goddamn Election!”

(…Gosh, I might end up doing Viagra commercials with Bob Dole next year! …Quick, somebody take this goddamn pencil out of my hand!)

…WELL, it could happen.

* Special Note: GW was invited, but regrettably declined. He and Rush Limbaugh were at a Veterans of Vietnam War Dodgers convention judging a nose candy contest.

With Ms Palin as his running mate, McCain should has signed either the death warrant of freedom of and from religion in this country if he wins, or else his own political oblivion. Often the last bastion of justice is the supreme court, and he said he would replace the liberal judges with people like Scalia and Thomas, whose obvious allegiance is to the Catholic church, not our constitution.

Ms Palin would help turn this country into a christian theocracy, where gays would be the whipping boy of religious fanatics. The same people who gave us slavery, segregation, hatred of the Jews, and didn't want women to vote, would now be in total control. And gays would be the victims. It would be open season on them. And the Jews would come next. People who get abortions would be executed, gays would be religious enemy #1, and our public schools would be used to indoctrinate children in fallacies and myths, eg that disease is god's punishment for sin, etc etc. And of course birth control would be outlawed, to satisfy our masters in Rome, and women would be expected to have 10 or 15 kids, more minds for the church to control.

And there would be a tremendous increase in murders, job losses, etc for gays. The White House and Ms Palin would effectively give their "bully pulpit" over to the worst of the worst of religious right wingers who satisfy their egos and goals for power and control at the expense of minorities.

And don't think it can't happen here. Germany was a cultured country that gave the world people like Bethovan, etc etc, as well as great science. But look at what happened to them, how the Jews (and gays) were all but annihilated. And 50 million others as well. Only here, in the remains of America, it would not be in the name of the "fatherland", but in the name of God, something even more powerful for many people.

America, in the western/Christian world, is the last significant holdout on the issues of granting gay people more and more legal rights. Virtually all west european countries, except Italy and Greece grant gays various levels of 'marriage type' recognition. Same for Israel, Rep. of SA, New Zealand, parts of Australia, Uraguay, and parts of Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, etc, and of course Canada. Also Hungary and the Chech republic. The US is the last holdout of major bigotry, and the target of the Catholic church and far right wing Protestant churches, who care not a whit about gay people, but only about perpetuating their power over people. And power corrupts, and as they say absolute power corrupts absolutely. And a variant perfect example of that is the power of corrupt beliefs in God, which we witnessed on 9/11. And we could become just like them.

For all the failings of the Democrats, the republcans, who apparently stole both the 2000 pres. election in FL, thanks to Bush's brother Jeb, and in 2004 in Ohio due to voting irregularities supreme, are really this nations greatest danger. For if they gain total control, we will become just like our terrorist enemies, just with a different religious symbol.

And a new dark ages could really come to pass, only this time, instead of swords and spears, you have nuclear weapons in the equation.

John McCain thinks all people are created equal? Are you talking about the same John McCain who says he wouldn't have nominated the supreme court justices who forced Texas to stop chucking us in jail for having sex?

The one who cries like a little bitch about "activist judges" who allow us a few scraps?

THAT John McCain?

And you're the editor in chief of 365gay.com? did your dad happen to get you this job?

John: Nope, I'm a different person. I think it's a little narcissistic of you to believe that since you are right (at least in your own mind), anyone who disagrees with you must be the same person.

Same-sex marriage is not the only policy that we need government to establish. You might want to argue it is 'self interest' for gay people to vote for Democrats, on the naive fantasy that Democrats support same-sex marriage. However, if that were true, we should vote for a party that actually wishes for full marriage equality, such as the Greens, the Socialists or the Libertarians. The fact that we are not generally voting for any of these parties indicates that we as a community are not 100% devoted to marriage equality ourselves; at least not to the point that we are willing to ignore and exclude all other considerations in the fight for it.

We are willing to believe that some of the other policies of these parties may, for other reasons, negatively affect our lives. We may also cynically believe that voting for them is a waste, but if one is going to be a cynic he or she might just as well not vote anyway.

We are willing to accept that a Nader Presidency, for example, may do us more harm, even if it did hypothetically result in marriage equality for us. So we do not place all of the decision weight on gay issues.

It is narcissitic to assume that just because you place more weight on that issue than some others, those others must be wrong. Others may have entirely legitimate reasons for voting in ways different from you.

Also, can you elaborate on your "more humane view of the world" idea? I'd like to hear of it.

Ross: If Obama wants a paradigm shift, he shouldn't have picked Biden as his running mate. The Obama/Biden ticket is largely built on pandering to the left-wing rather than moderates.
