@ The Mens...why do you even bother here? I do think that the majority of editors, readers and commentors are from the US. Are YOU going to come to VT from the UK to get married in VT? Are you going to come here and buy some of the 'Vanilla Les-Bean' edition they distribute because you're in constant PMS mode? Didn't think so.

Save it honey. No one needs your man-hating b.s. and I really could careless to see it on this website. Not everything is about male/female separation and superiority. It was coincidental that they were A: from VT so a big connection there and B: the actual name of the flavor could be SLIGHTLY re-interpreted to mark the celebrated occassion. Besides...2 dudes were the first to get married...

So if you don't like it, I suggest you call your lesbian friends in Maine, tell them to support No on 1, and then make sure they are the first ones at city hall to get hitched. Maybe then Poland Springs will rename something in Lesbian honor... ??

You're kidding Menstruator! You have to be kidding! How can you honestly find issue with Ben & Jerry's temporarily changing the name of "CHUBBY HUBBY" to Hubby Hubby. Did you notice what the actual name is? It's CHUBBY HUBBY.

You really need to let us all know how many are members of your She-Ra Man Haters Club.

>For example why not find a flavor name for ice cream (I realize that I had said this earlier) that celebrates female-female marriage same as male-male marriage was already celebrated.

Because, having been criticized, it doesn't make one want to play together nicely. It makes one want to hold up our hands in defense or to hit back with another criticism.

Being right does not excuse being rude. Or, maybe another way to put is is, if you want to bash--with words--as a way to convey your message, expect to get bashed back. Don't hit and then expect empathy and cooperation.

First, let me say that I do not agree that we should be up in arms over the temporary and largely symbolic ice cream name change. Instead, I think we should be supportive of Ben and Jerry's who is being so supportive of us.

However, this thread really reminds me of the "bird cage analogy." Consider this: If we look so closely at a bird cage that we see only one teeny bar blocking the bird's flight path, we wonder why it is that the bird does not simply fly around it. But when we step back, we see a network of bars working together to keep that bird imprisoned.

Much like the individual bars of a bird cage, issues like the one at issue here seem minute or even silly. An instance of an ice cream mogul temporarily renaming one of its most loved treats after gay marriage should be a reason to celebrate, even if it has the unintentional consequence of celebrating men and not women. However, when you step back, you can begin to see a network of seemingly “little issues" working together to maintain the invisibility of lesbian and bisexual women and the issues facing them.

And so to the point of a couple of other posters here, I do not agree that this is merely an issue of being "too politically correct." Women all too often see themselves pushed out and so when something as seemingly small as Ben and Jerry's symbolically renaming its ice cream after gay (male) marriage, it might be experienced by women as yet another example of male supremacy (even within the LGBT community). And I can respect that a woman might have that experience, even if it's not mine.

On a side note, it also reminds me of that time I stood in line for hours to get married in West Hollywood. When the volunteers came around with cupcakes decorated with same-sex male symbols to celebrate, they would not give one to me and my wife because they only had cupcakes with male symbols on them.

As if I cared, I just wanted a frickin' cupcake.

Considering they did not invent a new ice cream, just renamed an old one from CHUBBY HUBBY to HUBBY HUBBY, ladies there is no argument for fairness. I should be offended that they named and ice cream Chubby Hubby since my "Hubby" is chubby. Making fun of someones struggle with weight is about as tasteless as the joke about women and "mad cow disease".

I agree, too politically correct. Just laugh with the rest of us please and make your own ice cream and call it whatever works for you!
