I read that LOGO was going to go dark during the March and just run a link to 365Gay.com for a Live feed. What’s so expensive about live feed on the actual LOGO channel? Set up a couple of stationary cameras, a couple of roving reporters and handhelds and get a director and producer that can run the show. Every podunk local TV news station can do this whenever there’s a parade, why not Logo?

We are denied hundreds of basic human rights simply because of who we love. Every day we are denied the right to marry, visit our loved ones in the hospital, adopt children, get insurance and feel safe in our own towns. And sadly, some can’t endure being a second class citizen and take their own lives. Every day is one more day of being treated less than human.

How has the lack of basic human rights affected your life? If you are attending the National Equality March in Washington D.C. on October 11, 2009, have access to a video camera and want to share your story contact Laura at gayisokaydallas@gmail.com for more information.

I plan to go. I was at marches in I think 79 and 83. Both were politically and personally important, fun, exciting. I worry about the turn out for this one because cost of getting there and staying a few days makes it difficult for some who would like to go especially at this time. Is there organization around putting out-of-staters up by our community that could use the help? I'm puzzled by what seems like a lack of leadership by organizations and spokespeople from our community about whether to support a march at this time. I understand that some think the money spent would be more useful for state support such as marriage equality. But a good turnout with speakers from state and national government could support the individual states and create the critical mass to address national topics like DOMA and DADT,

Yes. And I'll drag my wife (F) if necessary. Fortunately I live 15 miles from the DC metro.

I hope the organization is done well. I hope that everyone dresses appropriately, not in bikinis etc. One of the common commnets I get from moderately conservative neighbors who support equality for gays is that they are put off by some of the excess public near nudity. It's not that they get all hot and bothered by seeing a guys bulge or a gal's boobs all but bare, but simply that they think the gay community has to act like the str8 community in matters of dress if they are to be accepted as part of the larger community.

For me, sorry to say it people, like all movements eg the environmental movement which was characterized or shown as being extremist in the beginning, the gay community needs to politically "grow up". If you want to have nzked parties in private settings, hey why not. Call me, it would be entertainment - especially if the chicks are there. But in public, you'll catch more flies with honey rather then vinegar is the old saying that kinda fits here.

And that is what this is all about. The good people in the middle, who haven't sold their minds to the right wing control freaks and their super-hypnotism.

While the idea's great, I just can't afford to. With the cuts in CA to the disabled, even if I were to stay with friends (not so easy with a wheelchair) and spend as little money there as I can, I still couldn't afford it.

I do find it sad that there are few organized groups from CA going. But then, we can't even be united on when we want to put gay marriage on the ballot, so it doesn't surprise me.

Oh, heck yeah! Good for you. I keep pushing all the people I can to commit to attending. I push that they'll take a week's vacation and go. The more of us that are there and that make it on the television, the much more successful--and impacting--it will be.

Thanks for the post.

my husband and I are going. Its gaining momentum and HRC just endorsed it. Its not going to be street fair its going to be a grassroots march with not a lot of commercialism. Afer all Cleve Jones an activist with Harvey Milk is one of the organizers so how bad can it be? if for nothing else we should carry on Harvey's work.

I think the march is a great idea. I will definitely be there! I hope gays can understand that until we raise up as one and have our voices heard, we will always be 2nd class citizens. Most people would rather ignore that we even exist! I live in Texas so I should know... See you at the march!

I'm planning to go, but this is my first participation in a march on Washington and I'm a little intimidated because of the lack of information on where to be, when to be there, where to stay, etc. Any advice out there? I'd appreciate it.
