The debate is a tie

By Jennifer Vanasco 09.26.2008 10:37pm EDT

This was a good debate – meaning, both candidates got a chance to state their positions, and they both came across as very well-informed on the subject of national security and the economy. I’m a Democrat, so I align with Obama better politically, but McCain was surprisingly tough.

Obama’s edge is in his steadiness and clarity of argument. And that great smile. But he still seems a bit cold. Or he did, until he started talking about his father. That’s where he gets inspirational.

McCain’s is in his passion and personalization, plus his long list of experience. (though he was shifting around a lot and seemed nervous. Also – does he care about ANY group of people besides veterans?)

Who won? Tough call, I think.

I say it’s a tie.

    • I also found the debate a tie when talking about what the candidates actually had to say. However, (and I feel this is huge), I felt that when talking about body language, Obama was by far the winner. It was widely noticed that even though they were encouraged to talk with each other, McCain only once, for the briefest of seconds, glanced at Obama. On the other hand, Obama continually looked at, and talked directly to McCain.

There is a good discussion of what this could possibly mean at the following website: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/220226.php

    • I am sure the moderator, Jim Lehrer, was not at all amused by the condescending and arrogant way he was treated by McCain. I wonder just what he will say on his next show about the debate, and Mc$h!+’s piss-poor attitude, which came across loud and clear?

    • I think that your poll figures are off. According to nearly every poll, Obama won the debate. See CNN television and cnn.com.

    • the candiates were clear- If you support squandering more money on an illegal war that will have no end, then perhaps war-monger mccain would be deemed a winner. By any other reasonable account, I think it was quite clear that Barack Obama is more equipped to get America back on track again.
