Koby, she certainly has the right to express her views. My veiw-- which I have the right to express- is that she is wrong, hurtful, and deserving of public reprisal.

You like so many others confuse "freedom of speech" with "Acceptance of speech." Say what you want, I can't stop you. But I don't have to approve of your opinions, and I don't have to leave your opinions unchallenged.

Her rambling, hypocritical answer was effectively: I think it's great that people have a choice, but they shouldn't. And I respect everyone but they shouldn't have equal rights.

Actually this muddle of saccharine manners and legal oppression is pretty typical for the bigots. Well... at least they claim to respect us and make some noises -- however hypocritically -- about how we should have at least some equal rights. This is some kind of a step forward, but when I hear such vapid crap I never know whether to laugh or to cry.

The Miss USA pageant does NOT represent mainstream American discourse any more than American Idol represents the best talent or Survivor represents our hardiest citizens. Its entertainment. Really bad entertainment. And this bimbo - and all the other contestant bimbos - will sink back into the cultural swamp from which they emerged faster than their youtube videos sink to the bottom of the most watched list. Wasting energy because a vapid beauty contest participant said something stupid - in a hamhanded fashion - is like complaining because ice is cold. If you don't want to watch stupid, don't tune in.

Perez Hilton's noblesse oblige on epithets, it seems, has not blotted out his shared outrage that homophobia can be expressed without prejudice.

To those who wish an analogy, imagine Miss California in 1967 expressing her disagreement with the SCOTUS decision on Loving v Virginia and lifting the ban on interracial heterosexual marriage.

Let us be clear. Sixteen states did not recognize black and white interracial marriage. This also extended to many WWII GI's who returned from Occupied Japan with more than the usual china now worth a small fortune. They came back with a wife. I have a few Amerasian friends who are half-Japanese and half-white, born, like me, in 1946. If they returned, they had to live outside those sixteen states that remained.

I, too, am very happy that it cost her the prize and title. She will however be rewarded by right wing billionaire homophobes who will use her as a prop against the prop, and then spew her out into a successful celebrity career.

Why would you hope that this woman's comments will cost her the crown. It is something that I find interesting that so-called "liberals" have absolutely no tolerance for people who don't think like they do. And why should anyone have to avoid a question. Isn't America still a free country where a person has the right to speak their own mind. I think you should be careful what you wish for.

Jim Angone Said: "...why would Perez hilton ask a question without conisidering the potential reponse he could get."

His strategy was brilliant. If on one hand she came out in support of marriage equality, Perez scores one for our side by getting an endorsement on national tv. If she comes off as an ignorant bigot, as she did, then her prejudice is exposed for all to see, and she reaps the fallout for it. If you ask me, he put a lot of thought into the response he might get and she played right into his hands.

"If Miss California has this opinion of same sex mariage, who among us should criticize her."

Ummm...ALL OF US! (Except for the neutered, ass-kissing lapdogs some in our community have become.) It is one thing to respect the right of a person to HAVE an opinion, but this does NOT automatically mean we must respect the intelligence, or lack thereof, of that opinion. Those are two separate and entirely different things. I respect her right to be a stupid bigot, but that doesn't mean I'm going to accept that her statement has any credibility or value.

"Lets issue out criticism only when it is deserved."

It was deserved. A national spokesperson should represent everyone, otherwise rename the pagent to the Miss WASP Heterosexual Bigot T&A Contest to conform with truth-in-labeling laws.

Koby, would you find that the belief, that Black People's brains are 1/3rd less than whites, would you find it acceptable that the belief that only Christians are allowed in heaven, or maybe you condone the beliefs that Jews should have be exterminated.

What she did, was use a public platform to discriminate against a particular group of people.

Her having done so, I find it ironic that you feel her rights are being violated because of the push back.

You remind me a person who accuses the rape victim instead of the perpetrator!

I was ok or perhaps I could have “tolerated” her opinion on the subject till she makes the silly/ignorant statement about “my god”. Biotch please. Perez Hilton is right about this tart. If she is going to start the bible thumping crapola, she should start on herself. She is prancing around on hooker heals, with her tata’s and harmonica barely covered. There must be something in the big bad book about that. Girlfriend would be stoned to death in the Middle East due to silly religious practices. One wonders if that has ever crossed her itty bitty tinny tiny NARROW mind.

Perez Hilton stepped right into the pile and now he has it all over his foot.

Although I support gay Marriage, why would Perez hilton ask a question without conisidering the potential reponse he could get.

I think this whole mess is one of those "one steps backward" scenarios.
If Miss California has this opinion of same sex mariage, who among us should criticize her. What has happened is that Perez Hilton an others in the Gay community who have criticized Miss California have ended up emboldening her view in the eyes of the public.
We end up looking like a group that only respects those that think like us. Lets issue out criticism only when it is deserved.

Perez, you may know gossip and gashion but you got a lot to learn about advancing our civil rights. respectfully, now that you opened up your mouth and made our side look ridiculous, please shut-up and stick to the gossip and ladieas fashions.

To Koby: Nobody has ever questioned her right to express her beliefs. They have questioned her intelligence, her morals, her tolerance of people who are different, but no one has said she had no right to say what she said. But guess what? She has as much right to express her bigotry as the rest of the world to condemn it; it's called freedom of speech and it goes both ways.
